SEVEN PEOPLE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s late here in the city that never sleeps, but I, BK, must sleep so I shall write these here notes in a hurry so I can scurry to dreamland. Let’s start with the act. As we’d pretty much figured out, due to some unfortunate timing (the Mac Awards) we had a very small turnout – seven people. But you know what? They were seven good people who enjoyed the show and had a fine time and The Singer didn’t let it throw her and delivered a show as if there were a full house. The show ran smoothly and I’m sure was a lot more entertaining than the Mac Awards (having attended one of those events, which bored me to tears). Prior to the show, I’d had a decent night’s sleep, got up, did some work on the computer and then went to the Brooklyn Diner for a little meeting. I had their good chopped salad (lettuce, gorgonzola cheese, bacon, and Russian dressing). I then came back to the hotel, realized they had a gym, and went down there and did three miles on the treadmill, which, I must say, really tuckered me out and made my legs quite sore.

Then we did our sound check, running a good deal of the act, and then I came back to the hotel, showered, and got dressed for the show.

At the show was our very own former dear reader Rodzinski – it was really nice to see him again. There were two women who’d seen The Singer in Palm Springs doing this act and they loved it so much they came back. Also, cabaret singer Craig Pomeranz was there – he was smart – he came, was supportive, and THEN went to the Mac Awards and I’m quite certain did not miss anything important. If only others had done the same. After the show, Rodzinski, The Singer, and I went to Joe Allen. We had some supper and towards the end of it dear reader Jose stopped by with his friend Yosh (sp?). We moved to a larger table and they ordered some food. It wasn’t quite as celebrity laden as the previous night, but we saw Jackie Mason (who has had so much facial work done he no longer resembles Jackie Mason), Dan Luria, director Casey Nicolaw and, once again, Bud Cort. The food was good (I had the tostada with chorizo, beans, and fried eggs, and a small Caesar salad – I figured I was okay, having run three miles and walked four), the conversation was sparkling and it was a nice end to the evening.

Well, let’s all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must try and get another decent night’s sleep so I’m awake and alert for today’s activities.

Today, I’m recording a couple of vocals with Skip Kennon. After that, FJL will join us and we’ll have some lunch. Then I’m meeting with choreographer Adam Cates for a little while, and then I’m seeing Baby, It’s You. We were supposed to sup before the show, but that’s been moved to after, so I’m sure we’ll end up at Joe Allen. I think dear reader Jose was going to try and put a little haineshisway.com get-together together in the late afternoon, which would be lots of fun.

Tomorrow, I shall be on my way to the airport at eleven or so, and then on my way back to the City of Studio. Once there, we have to be prepared for a huge day of shipping on Friday morning – two titles at once – it will be a little nutty but we’ll get it all done. I also have to print out a LOT of Mulholland Falls orders and that will take some time, as well. Then I have a work session with the thirteen-year-old Friday afternoon. I’m hoping I can relax on the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, attend a recording session, have lunch, meet with a choreographer, maybe have a get-together, see a show, and then sup afterwards. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I will dream a dream with seven people in attendance.
