THE LETTER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is very late and I am very tired and I must write these here notes in a hurry before I become completely incoherent rather than just mildly incoherent. The reason I am late with these here notes is because I was on amazon.com looking for various and sundried things and I found an amazon marketplace seller selling some CDs I knew intimately, and through trial and error I figured out who the seller was, and I did something I never thought I’d do – I wrote a note – a nice note with some factual information as well as a few questions that have been on my mind recently. That’s all I can say for now and I have no idea if there will ever be a response, but I thought the time was nigh to take this step and see if any good could result. I’m not holding my breath, but who knows? Stranger things have happened. Is that all enigmatic enough for you dear readers? It’s certainly enigmatic for me. I had quite a busy little day yesterday and it began early. Mr. Jason Graae came over and we moseyed on over to my engineer’s home environment. We fixed a couple of vocal things (two wrong words in a lyric – a word that had distorted – and a word that was off-mic). Then we edited some more patter, taking out about three minutes more than I’d already edited – all in all, I think we pulled six minutes of useless patter that would have been not very interesting on a CD. Then we recorded a “hidden” track – but we’re not sure if we’ll use it or not – it’s very funny, though, and if we don’t end up using it, we’ll put it on the website. We’ll give the new mix one more listen to make sure we’re absolutely happy with it, and then off it will go to the mastering engineer. We’re starting to work on the packaging, too.

After that, Jason and I had lunch at the Studio CafĂ©. I hadn’t been in a few weeks. We split my beloved wings (all drumettes) and they were the best they’ve ever been – Jason loved them as much as I. I had the BMO add C (bacon, mushroom, and onion – add cheese) scramble and a waffle – I only ate 2/3s of the waffle and everything was yummilicious.

I then had to go pick up a reel of tape for a potential upcoming project. It looks like it might be what we need, but I won’t know until the transfer guy gets it and lets me know what’s on it and that it’s the complete score (which is short anyway so we have to have it all for the release to be feasible). I then picked up one package (my postcards and bookmarks for Murder At The Masquers) and no important envelope and then I came back home. I did a jog, and did a couple of hours of writing on the Wechter/Kimmel project, so that was good to get out of the way. What I didn’t do was begin my commentary for next week’s show or the new liner notes.

We then had our second rehearsal for the Gardenia show. It was lots of fun and people were much more secure on their songs. It’s going to be a fun show, but my first pass at an order was a little problematic and I figured out how to make it better, just by hearing all the songs. It’s actually just shuffling two numbers. After the rehearsal, I got a little snack from Gelson’s, and then it was too late to watch a motion picture, so I just did some work on the computer and that was that.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must go get my beauty sleep.

Today, I will be writing the commentary, paying a visit to Mystery and Imagination Books to set up my book signing, hopefully picking up a package or three and an important envelope, and then it’s a work session with the thirteen-year-old for a couple of hours, after which she and I and the family are going to celebrate her father’s birthday at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. I’m salivating just thinking about it.

Tomorrow, I have a ten o’clock meeting in the Bank of Bur and then I’m taking dear reader Jeanne out for a birthday lunch, after which I’ll come home and finish the commentary and also get the liner notes done, so that I’m going into the new week without that stuff undone. This week will be filled with rehearsals, work sessions, the show, and lots o’ writing.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Twist, for today is the birthday of our very own beloved dear reader Arnold M. Brockman. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own beloved dear reader Arnold M. Brockman. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN BELOVED DEAR READER ARNOLD M. BROCKMAN!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write a commentary, visit a bookstore, hopefully pick up a package and an important envelope, do a long jog, have a work session, and then have a birthday dinner. Today’s topic of discussion: What books are you currently reading and recommending? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland wondering if the letter I wrote will be ignored or answered. I do hope it’s that latter for the letter and the letter for the latter.
