UNSEEMLY BUTTOCKS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, relaxation was what I wanted and relaxation is what I had and it did me a world of good and now I am ready to greet this new week with energy and aplomb, not necessarily in that order. And a busy week it’s going to be, but more about that later. I had another great night’s sleep and just spent the first two hours of the day being lazily lazy, after which I got in the motor car and drove to Manhattan Bagel where I purchased three onion bagels. Then I drove directly to Gelson’s where I purchased a can of tuna and an onion, as well as two candy bars and some cream cheese. I came home, added the some chopped onion and mayonnaise to the tuna, then cut two of the bagels in half, added some American cheese to each, and then I slathered on the tuna for two yummilicious tuna sandwiches on fresh onion bagels. It was so faboo I almost went for another two sandwiches. Instead, I ate the third bagel with some cream cheese and that was that. Then I did a tiny bit of revising on something I’m writing, and then I sat on my couch like so much fish, after approving the cover of our next release – it took six tries to get it to where I was happy with it.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Something Wild, a film by Jonathan Demme, starring Melanie Griffith, Jeff Daniels, and Ray Liotta. I really liked this film back when it came out and it really holds up all these years later. Its tone shifts work beautifully, and Melanie Griffith has never been better and it’s so nice to look at her beautiful face before she did all that hideous work on it. Now, here is something I just noticed – if you put Melanie’s first name with Jeff’s last you get Melanie Daniels, which is the name of the leading female character in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. What’s really interesting about that is that Melanie Daniels was, of course, played by Melanie Griffith’s mom, Tippi Hedren. Where else would such trivial trivia occur except here at haineshisway.com? Nowhere, that’s where. And Mr. Liotta gives one of the great debut performances in this, his first film. The film has almost no score; it’s mostly filled with then-hip pop songs and it works quite well. Mr. Demme’s visual style (with cameraman Tak Fujimoto) really serves the material well, and the transfer is excellent. There is a nice thirty minute interview from last year with Demme – it’s really the only kind of extra that should be done – just a talking head of the director sharing some stories about the shooting. No great secrets revealed ruining the magic of the film itself. If you haven’t seen it, it is highly recommended by the likes of me.

After that, I sat in the Jacuzzi, then wrote and completed the liner notes for our next release and sent them off to the Kritzerland designer. Then I just played on the computer, visited some websites, and that was that. All in all, a very enjoyable day and I even got some work done.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it is time to post the notes and I’d like to get one more great night’s beauty sleep. Do you know that I almost accidentally typed Unseemly Buttocks instead of Unseemly Button? And believe me, I know from Unseemly Buttocks.

Today, I shall try to jog, then I have quite a few errands and whatnot to do, hopefully I’ll have some packages to pick up and, more importantly, the way overdue important envelope – should that arrive then I shall also do some banking. I have to go to storage and get some charts, and I have to finish choosing and assigning numbers for the show – I’ll know this morning whether we’re finally fully cast, save for our guest star. Not sure what’s happening in the evening, although I have a lot of work to do on the Gardenia show – once again, I’m over a week behind where I should be, thanks to the New York trip and I hate this kind of pressure. Once we finish this show, I am vowing to have the next one cast and songs chosen within five days. Happily, we already know who the musical director is, so that’s a big help, and we already know the who the evening is about.

Tomorrow I’ll be making CDRs and Xeroxing music so the singers can come get them. That will give them a full two weeks to get the material down and hopefully that will be fine. The rest of the week is filled with meetings, work sessions, seeing a couple of shows, and lots of other stuff.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to do a jog, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up a package or three and an important envelope, eat something light but amusing, and solidify cast and song choices for the Gardenia show. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite movies featuring Melanie Griffith, Jeff Daniels, and Ray Liotta? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall undoubtedly dream of Unseemly Buttocks.
