BACK TO NORMAL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the nausea of the last three days seems to be finally abating and it’s steady as she goes, stomach-wise, or at least close to it. I managed to eat a turkey sandwich and a cup of soup without feeling too sketchy, and I even had a little treat of a cookie, too. Hopefully, today I will be back to normal or, at the very least, next to normal. I spent a mostly restful day yesterday being mostly restful, which is par for the course on a mostly restful day in which one is mostly restful, if you get my meaning, mostly restful-wise. I slept until she of the Evil Eye rang the doorbell at nine, then I went to the Dale of Glen and met with Adryan Russ to discuss our next Gardenia show. We made a list of performers and the order in which they’ll be asked and hopefully by today or tomorrow we’ll have the rest of our company of players. After that, I did some errands and whatnot, then came back home. I did some work on the computer, picked up a package and an important envelope, and then I kind of have no memory of the rest o’ the day, other than I spent about forty-five minutes on the telephonic device with Apple trying to figure out why my calendar wasn’t synching. It turns out that one had to do an update as they’ve changed the way that the calendars synch. Once that was figured out and done, everything worked just fine. At five, I didn’t feel I was quite up for a very long drive to the Cissy Wechter birthday partay, so I called and said I wouldn’t be there. Then I had my turkey sandwich and soup, which hit the spot. Why the turkey sandwich and the soup ganged up and pummeled the spot is anyone’s guess. I then came back home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Rio Lobo, a film of Howard Hawks, in fact, the final film of Howard Hawks. It was Hawks once again on the familiar turf of Rio Bravo and El Dorado, but a notch down from those. Most of Rio Lobo feels perfunctory and aside from the Duke and one or two other cast members (Jim Davis, Hank Worden, David Huddleston), this is the worst cast film Hawks ever made. The supporting players, for the most part, are really not good and it gives the whole show the feel of a TV movie. Even the score by Jerry Goldsmith, who was at the height of his powers, seems perfunctory. The Duke, of course, is grand fun and it is amusing seeing soon to be movie mogul Sherry Lansing giving a truly terrible performance, although Jennifer O’Neill is right up there with her. Some of the dialogue by Leigh Brackett is amusing, and the photography of William Clothier is nice, although nowhere near his finest work. It isn’t helped by the somewhat lackluster transfer, color-wise – it’s not bad, but it’s just a little too brown for my taste. It’s sharp, and looks fine and most will be happy with it. I’m happy to have any Duke in the Blu and Ray collection, but this isn’t nearly as much fun as Big Jake, which is up next for me in my Duke on Blu-Ray pile.

After that, I did a very small amount of writing, I took a really long, hot shower, I read a magazine, and basically I just relaxed.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must try and get a really good night’s beauty sleep so that I awaken refreshed and hopefully sans all nausea.

Today, I plan to write for two or three hours, then, if I’m feeling better, I will have a proper meal. I’m sure I’ll watch a motion picture or three on Blu and Ray, and I’m sure I’ll relax, and at some point I have to go to the storage facility and get the five cans of the optical soundtrack for Nudie Musical, so that I can deliver picture negative and sound to the lab tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow, I shall deliver picture negative and sound to the lab in the Bank of Bur, and I also have a lunch meeting at one in the City of Studio. Then there will be errands and whatnot, choosing songs for the next Gardenia show, announcing the new Kritzerland release, and writing, after which I think I have to see Bat Boy at Musical Theatre Guild. The rest of the week is filled with meetings, meals, work sessions, and such.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, hopefully have a proper meal, watch a motion picture or three, go to storage, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, as I hit the road to dreamland, after which I will hopefully arise and be back to normal.
