STILL QUEASY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I am still nauseous and I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon. I must say I am rather sick of this queasy feeling. When I awoke it was back full force – I’d been feeling a little better the night before. I had to get up early, and then I met the helper at the storage facility and we pulled the five reels of picture only CRI and put that in my motor car. I then came home. I was feeling uneasy from being queasy so I sat on my couch like so much queasy fish and watched a motion picture I’d TIVOd entitled Lucy, a TV movie bio-pic about Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. It was really bad and made me more nauseous than I already was. Horribly written and one of the worst cast TV movies I’ve ever seen – literally, I did not like one actor. The sloppiness of the writing was appalling. You’d think with two writers and a half-dozen producers that someone would bother to look up a few details. The first one that was truly stupid and glaring was saying that Eddie Cantor was the star and director of the film Roman Scandals. It doesn’t take a lot of brain power and it isn’t difficult to ascertain that Mr. Cantor never directed a film in his life. Frank Tuttle was the director of Roman Scandals. Years are wrong, motor cars are wrong, people are wrong – it’s just unbelievable that crap like this gets made and then put on the air. And it’s not as if the ignoring of factual things was for dramatic effect – there was no drama. Rachel York may be many things, but Lucille Ball isn’t one of them – she simply does not look, sound, nor have the comedy chops of Miss Ball. The guy who played Desi was a skinny little guy who resembled Desi not one whit. The only actor in the whole thing that came within a country mile of who they were playing was the guy who played William Frawley, and he wasn’t all that close.

After that, I answered e-mails and was queasy. Then it was time to go to the lab to let them have a look at the CRI of Nudie Musical. Robert Harris arranged this visit, and it was extremely kind of him to do so, as the lab did this look-see as a favor to him. They were very nice, and they put up the first reel. I know very little about what CRIs do or should look like, but apparently if there was still green in the faces that meant there would still be color left in the CRI. They were very heartened by what they saw and feel we’re extremely lucky, as these 1970s CRIs were very prone to fading completely. So, that was very nice news. And other than a few scratches here and there, the first reel was in very good condition.

I then picked up some packages and no important envelope, after which I came home, still feeling very queasy. I did some work on the computer and then rested some more, and then it was time to mosey on over to Grant Geissman’s home environment, where I met Miss Barbara Deutsch. Grant had already assembled a fun cover and formatted the book itself, so it was mostly style questions for the layout. Grant does most of that, and I throw out suggestions every now and then. It took about three hours and the book looked really good. She and I now have to go through it to make sure it’s all consistent and proof for bad breaks and such. Barbara then took Grant and I out to Hamburger Hamlet. By that time I was ready to pass out from hunger, so Barbara suggested I get the rotisserie chicken, which I did. I was so famished, I ate it all up and it was quite good, but about thirty minutes later my queasiness was back in earnest. So, I went back to the couch and watched thirty minutes of a motion picture on Blu and Ray, which I’ll finish at some point today. When I’m on the couch I feel better – I’m still and that makes my tummy feel still, too.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep and hope that this queasiness a) doesn’t get worse during the night, and b) is gone by the time I arise.

Today, I shall try to have a morning meeting with Adryan Russ about casting the next Gardenia show – we have two of our five folks already, so that’s good. Then I’ll do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up a package or two and an important envelope, and then I’ll come home. I have to do some writing (it’s really hard for me when I’m feeling nauseous), and then, if I’m feeling up to it, I’ll attend a birthday partay for Miss Cissy Wechter.

Tomorrow, I have to write and make sure everything is prepped for our new release, and hopefully the rest of the day and night will be spent resting so that I’m in fine fettle for my busy upcoming week, which includes many meetings, work sessions, and errands and whatnot.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a morning meeting, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up a package and an important envelope, write, and attend a birthday partay. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite episodes of I Love Lucy and the Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour, and what are your favorite films of Lucy. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and please send excellent vibes and xylophones for nausea to be completely gone today.
