GERITOL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, these four-mile jogs are not getting easier and that’s probably because I’m not getting younger, although, that said, I am younger than springtime and older than Geritol. Do they still make Geritol? Wasn’t that the What’s My Line sponsor? Yes, to both – Geritol is still with us and was one of the sponsors of What’s My Line. Since I was but a sprig of a twig of a tad of a lad of a youth, I never had to take Geritol because I didn’t have iron-poor tired blood. But I always liked the name. Much later they had a famous commercial with a famous tag line – “My wife – I think I’ll keep her.” I feel that Geritol should be the official sponsor of haineshisway.com, along with Five-Day Deodorant Pads and Maidenform Bras. What the HELL am I talking about? Don’t I have notes to write and aren’t I exhausted? I do and I am so here we go – perhaps a shot of Geritol would get these old bones feeling perky again.

I got a great night’s sleep, which I really needed, but because I got up at 10:45 I was quite behind all day. I had to get over to LACC for a little meeting about our show in November. I got all the rehearsal, tech, and show dates, and we talked about the “look” of the show, discussed stage managers, and it was a very nice and positive meeting. After that, I came back to the San Fernando Valley, picked up two small packages containing two small items, and then I came home. I then did a four-mile jog – during the final third I literally thought I was going to expire on the sidewalk. But, I got through it, ate a yummilicious apple, drank a LOT of water and then it was time for our rehearsal. Gregory Harrison arrived thirty minutes before everyone else so he could run his number – we did it in the act I did for him and Linda Purl, so he knows it very well. Then everyone else arrived and we began. Melody hit Wilkommen and City Lights right out of the park, and it was all wonderful from there, with everyone turning in great performances. We had a couple of little lyric mishaps, but basically it went very well. After, I gave some tiny notes, we worked on a couple of little things, then everyone left except Melody and I gave her a few little staging things for the opening. I have to say that The Grass Is Always Greener is one of the greatest comedy songs ever written. People were on the floor. It’s going to be a fun show, I think, and I just hope we have a nice full house.
After everyone left, I made a couple of low-fat low-cal hot dogs, had some leftover potato salad and one piece of the chocolate peanut butter pound cake, all excellent and all within my calorie range. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching Yours, Mine, and Ours on TIVO. As I said yesterday, it’s probably the best of the post-I Love Lucy Lucy film appearances. She’s funny, natural, warm, and believable. Henry Fonda is stalwart – not the funniest man in show business, but his performance works fine, and the large gaggle of children are all fun to watch. The score by Fred Karlin is wonderful, and we may be putting it out at some point.

I then had a telephonic conversation with the Kritzerland designer and we went over all your thoughts and suggestions and are doing a few new variations based on them. Ultimately, I have to do what I like best and hope everyone else likes it, but the suggestions were helpful and your reasons for them were equally helpful.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must try and get another good night’s beauty sleep, or I may just have to buy some Geritol to make up for iron-poor tired blood.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s sleep, and then I shall try to do the long jog early. Then I have some errands and whatnot to do, hopefully some packages to pick up, and then I shall ready myself for the Gardenia show, after which I’ll mosey on over to the club for our five o’clock sound check. After that, a few of us will go across the street to have a drink and some food (I’ll just eat a small salad). Then it’s back to the club for dinner (I’ll just have prosciutto and melon and some other small item), and then the show. I will, of course, have a full report.

Tomorrow, I’ll be at the lab at eight to do the sound layback for Nudie Musical. It is becoming sadly apparent that the Kickstarter campaign, after a strong start, has completely stalled out at fifty-three percent. So, unless we can get people off their ASSES and spread the word, it’s not going to happen. We have less than two weeks now until our cut-off date of July 17. Then the rest of the week is meetings, meals, and I think I may have to see a musical.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get a good night’s sleep, jog, do errands and whatnot, pick up packages, have a sound check, and do the show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland. These notes have been brought to you by Geritol, for iron-poor tired blood.
