THE BIG PUSH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what did Cary grant? What did Barbara cook? Was Robert young? Was Cilla black? Was Nigel green? Was Dan brown? Does Charles dance? Did Fred ebb? Was Gower champion? Was Noel coward? Was Buddy rich? These are the thoughts that are roaming around the windmills of my mind. I am currently just sitting here like so much fish, waiting to announce the new Kritzerland CD – Jason Graae – Perfect Hermany. And isn’t it funny that I had no idea that the day I chose to announce also happened to be Mr. Herman’s birthday? So, a happy haineshisway 80th birthday to Mr. Jerry Herman.

I had quite an uneventful and nice Sunday. I got eight hours of sleep, then I got up, did work on the computer, and then did the four-mile jog. Then I did a little writing, after which the thirteen-year-old and family arrived. We had an excellent rehearsal – no stopping, straight through. The act runs fifty minutes, but it will be closer to fifty-five when all is said and done. I took notes, gave the notes, and we’re in very good shape and still have four weeks to go.

After the rehearsal, we went over the hill to Nate ‘n’ Al’s for dinner. I’d been craving it, and boy was it yummilicious. I ordered my beloved New York (pastrami, extra lean, with cole slaw and Russian dressing), plus I ordered kishka for the table. That ended up being VERY popular with the populace, especially with the teen, who found it delightfully delightful, much as Adriana Hofstetter does in Murder At The Masquers. We had a wonderful time and then we came back to the home environment, where I gave the teen a copy of her song for the next Gardenia show. We’re still trying to lock down the last two people – the older guy I wanted, who’s done three of these before, is going out of town, so we’ve asked someone else. And we’re still waiting to hear from a younger gal – why these young performers do not respond within twenty-four hours just baffles me. If we haven’t heard from her by morning, then it’s on to the next. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I began watching a Blu and Ray of The Triplets of Belleville, the marvelously marvelous animated film from France. I haven’t seen it since it came out and I got halfway through and it’s just as entrancing as ever. The Blu-Ray is from France and there are no subtitles, but it’s virtually a silent film save for some odd lines coming from the radio or TV. I look forward to finishing it tonight, and the transfer is wonderful.

After that, I did more work on the computer, sent out the final eBlast for the Kickstarter campaign – we have one week to go and we need the Big Push now. We began by achieving 50% funding the first week – but the next two weeks our percentage only went up to 58%. But I was told that the big action happens in week one and week four – well, we’re in week four and we need the big action now. I’m really hoping we have it, so continue to spread the word to fans of the movie, cult movie groups, and whoever you know who might like to kick in some dough.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must announce a new title and then get my beauty sleep.

Was Norman large? Was Neva small? Was Stephen king? Was Harold prince? Today, I shall get up and hopefully print out a LOT of orders. I have a lunch meeting, I’ll do the long jog either before or after it, and I’m hopefully going to hear when I can go to the lab to see how the clean-up work went – at least I should hear a progress report, but they told me they thought they’d be through by this morning. So, I have to play it loose for the next few days.

The next few days I have to play it loose. I do have a lot of writing to do, including new liner notes for our next soundtrack release, a double-header, two terrific comedy scores, one the first score by someone who’d go on to have an amazing film scoring career, and the second by a composer much better known for Broadway than films.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, have a lunch meeting, print orders, and hopefully hear about when I’m going to see a screening of what will hopefully be the final master of Nudie Musical, or at least close to it just in case I have a fix or two. Today’s topic of discussion: Keep out little game going – it’s fun! Was John savage? Was David lean? Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we gird our loins for The Big Push.
