WAYLAID

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had some Kickstarter action yesterday and we’re now something like 64% funded, so inch by inch we go. Meanwhile, I got word that I’m seeing the whole thing with the clean-up work that was performed on Wednesday morning at nine. Color me excited. If they got everything and I like the way it looks and sounds, then this part of the process is then finished. If I have any notes, then we’ll book a little more time and address them, but I’m hoping that the clean-up work was effortless and excellent. Otherwise, yesterday was just sort of a day. I got up after eight hours of sleep, and printed out a LOT of Jason Graae orders – all the signed copies are spoken for now. I then had a lunch meeting and that was fun and fine, not necessarily in that order. I then picked up the booklets for Jason to sign and tomorrow I’ll Fed Ex them to him. Then I picked up one tiny little package which contained a tape and a CDR that might end up being a Kritzerland project in the near future.

Then I did the four-mile jog, which, I must say, has gotten a little easier over the last few days. Then I went to Gelson’s and got a eight-ounce halibut filet (it sure didn’t look like eight ounces – it looked like six ounces), a small can of creamed corn (REALLY low-cal – the whole can is 120 calories), and some apples. I have been on an apple kick lately, which is unusual since I don’t really like apples all that much. But when it’s hot, a nice, cold apple is very tasty and it satisfies my sweet tooth. I made the halibut, but to my horror I discovered I was out of butter – I like to put two little pats of butter on top of the seasoned halibut when I bake it – it keeps it moist and adds just the right flavor. I made do but it just wasn’t the same – today I will get butter. The creamed corn was fun – not all that tasty, but I enjoyed it. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching The Triplets of Belleville (aka Bellville Rendezvous). What an absolutely wonderful film. It’s got a rueful quality to it, and the animation is unique and mesmerizing. The story is simple, and it’s all told without dialogue (save for some odd lines coming from the TV or unimportant lines from characters). The Blu and Ray I watched is, of course, in French and had no subtitles, but you just don’t need them at all because the few lines that are there are very easy to understand. The musical score is fantastic, and the song the triplets sing at the top of the film (the clip is done in the style of an old black-and-white cartoon from the 30s) is really fun. The run time is only seventy-five minutes. The director, Sylvain Chomet, went on to make last year’s The Illusionist, another wonderful film. The Blu-Ray I have is from France and contains both Triplets and The Illusionist. I compared the Blu-Ray transfer to the DVD of Triplets and the Blu-Ray is a 1000 times better.

After that, I did some re-writing on the web series, since I locked down Brad Oscar – so I personalized it for him. I also rewrote a little of episode two, and I’ll do a final polish in a few days, before sending them out to the actors. I also have to get some arrangements done and mp3s to the actors along with sheet music (yes, there’s music involved) and I’ve decided to only shoot two episodes in New York because three would really be pushing what time we have to do them. So, I’ll do four in LA, two there. I had a couple of long telephonic conversations, too.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I just got waylaid and it’s now quite late. I hate when I get waylaid, don’t you? I just thought of something and then that something waylaid me. Of course, if I put a space after way and before laid that sentence would take on a whole new meaning, wouldn’t it?

Today, I shall not be waylaid, space or no space. I have a lot of writing to do (web series, liner notes), a lot of errands and whatnot to do, I will hopefully pick up a package or three, and I will eat something light but amusing, and, of course, do the four-mile jog.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the lab at nine to see Nudie Musical with clean-up work performed. I will shoot some iPhone video just to give you another peak at what it looks like and I hope and pray that the work was done well (which I’m sure it was) and that I’ll be dancing a jig. The rest of the week is meals, meetings, and seeing a show, and then I may attend the Hollywood Show this weekend, just because our very own Gregory Harrison will be there.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Hokey Pokey, because today is the birthday of our very own beloved Cillaliz. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own beloved Cillaliz. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN BELOVED CILLALIZ!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a four-mile jog, I must write, I must do errands and whatnot, I must hopefully pick up packages, and I must eat. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite vegetables, and your favorite way of preparing same? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall not be waylaid in any sense of the word.
