SAFE AND SOUND

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am home safe and sound, albeit jet-lagged and weary. The ride to the airport was very quick and I got to go in a special express line because I’d purchased the extra legroom seat. The crowds were unbelievable. I got to a security checkpoint pretty quickly because for whatever wacko reason people were all getting in line at one checkpoint, while ten feet away two others had one or two people in line. As Art Linkletter used to say, People Are Funny. They ran my bag through the scanner thing twice – maybe my backup hard drive looked suspicious although they didn’t ask me to open the bag and it only took an extra thirty seconds to run it through again. We got on the plane and it began backing away from the gate right on time, at which point we stopped and they held us there for forty-five minutes because, as always, JFK cannot handle their traffic. We finally got off the ground. I slept for about twenty minutes, I had some not so hot potato chips, I had a Diet-Coke, I did some work on the computer, but it was a VERY long five and a half hour flight.

The car met me at the Bank of Bur airport and whisked me home. It was very hot out. Once home, I fired up Ye Olde Computer, unpacked, and then dumped all our video clips onto the main computer, just to have them there. That way, I can mark the takes I want and if there are two good takes, which of each to use. I must say, the footage looks really good. I opened the packages that had arrived, opened the mail and an important envelope, and answered many e-mails, as well as printed out the orders that had come in. Divorce, Italian Style is proving to be a bit of a stiff – which surprises me, but I guess one can’t predict. The more things that don’t sell out, the less chances I’m going to take in the future. A shame, really. Then I did some errands and whatnot, including banking and picking up a couple of packages, including the one I sent to myself, which had a whole lot o’ chocolate licorice. I then went and had a turkey sandwich and no fries or onion rings. By that point, I was getting pretty bleary-eyed. I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I began watching a motion picture on Blu and Ray, a western from Germany. Yes, you heard that right, a western from Germany. Before the spaghetti western took over the world, there were Sauerkraut Westerns from Germany. This one, Treasure of Silver Lake is adapted from one of the many Karl May western stories, and stars Lex Barker and Herbert Lom. It’s quite well directed by Harald Reinl, who’s directed a lot of German films that I’m very fond of, including a lot of the Edgar Wallace adaptations. It’s in scope and beautiful color and so far I’m really enjoying it. I’ll have more to say after I’ve finished it.

After that, I listened to a little of the recording of Melodyland, just a very rough mix. As with Jason’s live recording, I’m not that happy with the sound yet, so I’ll go next week and finesse things. I had a chat with Miss Joan Ryan and we’re having a little meeting on Friday.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as I can before arising at nine.

Today, I must meet the helper at the storage place – we have a lot of sheet music to pull. After that, I’ll come home, do the four-mile jog, hopefully finish up another episode or two of the web series, hopefully find a camera and sound person to shoot here in LA, and figure out what the next Kritzerland release is. Hopefully, I’ll pick up a package or two, do some errands and whatnot and eat something light but amusing, after which I’ll finish the Sauerkraut Western and move onto another motion picture.

Tomorrow, I’ll have a meeting with Joan Ryan and later I’m attending some ASCAP thing at the Gardenia. The weekend is unknown to me at this point in time.

I’m really sorry to have missed S. Woody White’s birthday yesterday, but that’s what happens when one is away and overtired. So, a big belated haineshisway.com birthday cheer to S. Woody White. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG BELATED HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO S. WOODY WHITE!!!

It looks like I’m going to Chicago to do the Ray Courts celebrity signing show on October 1st and 2nd. I’ve never done the Chicago show and normally I probably wouldn’t have wanted to, but Druxy might be there, and Cindy Williams and several other people are doing it, so I’m sure it will be a ton of fun.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, pull sheet music, do a four-mile jog, write, figure out a release, hopefully pick up a package, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite dishes involving rice? I love rice and all kinds of rice dishes. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be home safe and sound.
