WRITTEN ON THE WIND

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s midnight exactly and at midnight exactly I do believe these here notes should be posted, but since I’m still writing the first sentence of these here notes, apparently that is not the case. But they will be posted posthaste because I shall write like the wind, and I think we all know just how fast the wind writes. Perhaps I’ll even write waywardly so I can write like the wayward wind, which, after all, is a restless wind. I don’t know about you, dear readers, but I’m thinking maybe there’s just a little too much wind in these here notes. I hate when that happens, over-windy notes. Perhaps we should simply be passing wind and doing without. You know, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m talking about, please keep it to yourself, unless, that is, it has to do with the wind.

And thus – paragraph one – written on the wind. I think I had an okay day yesterday. Let’s see if I can actually remember any of it. I do recall getting up in the morning, oh, yes, I do recall getting up. I recall doing some work on the computer, oh, yes, I recall doing some work on the computer, as well as having a few telephonic calls. I recall doing the four-mile jog, then having a visitor, then having the Pool Man finish up his stuff. I recall meeting Jason Graae in Burbank and having a fun time. He finally read his episode of the web series and thought it was a real hoot. I recall having a turkey sandwich and onion rings. I recall picking up no packages. I recall speaking with the camera person who’ll be shooting on Monday – he’s still trying to find a shooter for Tuesday. I always have my iPhone and my Flip Camera. I recall making a tentative schedule for the Monday shoot. I recall coming home and having another lovelier than lovely conversation with Mr. Harvey Schmidt. And I recall sitting on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture I’d TIVOd entitled Under Suspicion, starring Mr. Gene Hackman and Mr. Morgan Freeman. It’s one of those talking pictures with lots of flashbacks and a plot wherein until the very end you don’t know who did what. It’s based (naturally, what else is new) on a French film called Garde a Vu. It’s not a terrible film and Hackman and Freeman are always worth watching and both get a lots of scenes with lots of good acting moments. The writing isn’t great, some things remain murky and since the demise of one character in Garde a Vu at the end was known to me, this version leads you right to that point – only we then have a cutaway and clearly they did a re-shot ending because I’m sure the original tested poorly. In fact, this was one of the lowest grossing pictures in the history of film – I don’t think it had theatrical revenues of over $260,000. Part of the problem for me was the directorial “style,” filled with slow, then fast, then slow camera moves and all that crap people with no talent do to disguise the fact that they have no talent. And the musical score by someone named BT (really – I kid you not) actually has some excellent moments and as soon as I saw who orchestrated I knew who was responsible for each and every one of those moments and it most certainly wasn’t BT – it was my pal Randy Miller, who’s really a wonderful composer and who’s done many scores in this vein. Not great, but I didn’t regret giving it a look-see.

After that, I saw two versions of the Kritzerland logo that will appear on the Blu and Ray of Nudie Musical. One of them is fine, but I want to see a slightly different version of the second one, then I’ll decide. I also saw all the credit pages, proofed them, and realized I’m gotten Robert Harris’ middle initial wrong on his thank you – I said Robert H. Harris, because I’m fond of that particular character actor and that’s where my brain went. Our Robert is Robert A. Harris and that’s now fixed. I also decided on the music that would accompany various menus on the disc – I decided to use Grant Geissman’s versions of the songs – they’re kicky and fun. I also decided that Nudie Musical will finally have its own dedicated CD release concurrent with the Blu-Ray release. The soundtrack itself has been on CD twice – once as part of a BK CD with a lot of other stuff, and once in a CD only included with the DVD. So, I think it’s time for its own special release. We’ll have the soundtrack, we’ll have Grant’s cover versions, and we’ll have some never-before-released stuff, too. I’m trying to gather everything I can find. I had a couple of things on my counter for a year, and now they’ve gotten moved and I have to figure out where. I’m sure they ended up in the garage somewhere.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep.

Today, I shall hopefully awaken after a good night’s beauty sleep. If I get up early enough, I’ll do the four-mile jog – if not, I have a noon lunch meeting with my LA choreographer over at the Studio CafĂ©, and I’ll have to do the jog after that. Then we have our final rehearsal in the evening.

Tomorrow, I have a lot of stuff to do in the morning pertaining to the New York, New York trip, and then we have our sound check, and my engineer has his set-up to record the show. Then it will be show time and I’m really excited to birth this puppy for a sold-out crowd. Thursday, I’ll pack and get everything ready, and I think we’ll also be shipping out CDs that day. The helper will be watching the home environment during my absence. And then Friday, I shall be on my way to the city that never sleeps, where I shall see a show or two, have a production meeting, and then shoot episodes two and three of the new web series (episodes one, four, five, and six all shoot in LA).

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, have an early lunch meeting, do errands and whatnot, and then have our final rehearsal. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite Gene Hackman performances – one of our finest screen actors. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland after having written like the wind.
