September 30, 2011:

CHICAGO, THAT TODDLIN’ TOWN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am beginning these here notes in the shank of the evening. I don’t really know what the HELL the shank of the evening is, but, nevertheless, I’m beginning these here notes in the shank of the evening. Why? So that after this evening’s rehearsal I shall be that much ahead of the game, notes-wise. I want to get them posted early and I want to be in bed by ten. I’m rather enjoying the shank of the evening. In fact, I’ll remember the shank of this particular evening with great fondness and I shall think of it often whilst crooning Shanks For The Memories. We don’t allow groaning here at haineshisway.com. In any case, I really must write before the shank disappears.

I finally got over eight hours of sleep (eight and a half to be exact – what am I, a Fellini film all of a sudden), got up, answered e-mails and did the four-mile jog. I began packing, then went to the bank and got cash (especially fives and tens as I’ll need to make change in Chicago), picked up a couple of packages, and had a Caesar salad with Cajun chicken. Aside from all that, I finessed one of the upcoming web series scripts, I sent script, music and sheet music to Matt Ashford, I finally booked a cameraman (at least I think I did – haven’t gotten the confirmation e-mail yet, but he said he was available and would do it), printed out more orders (the Nudie orders have been coming in very steadily as word continues to spread), and had several long telephonic conversations.

I shall now leave you, dear readers, and I shall return after rehearsal with Alet and John Boswell.

Rehearsal is done and it is no longer the shank of the evening. Alet did wonderfully tonight – she’d addressed the notes from the other night, and everything played beautifully. It’s going to be a terrific show and it’s something that she’ll then be able to do elsewhere.

Obviously, I had no time to watch the rest of Ben and Hur on Blu and Ray, since I’m trying to be in bed by ten, which is now looking doubtful – but it won’t be too too long after ten.

And may I just mention that this is the last day of September? Where did this month go? Well, tomorrow is October, the tenth month, and let us pray that it will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.

Why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must write the rest of these here notes so I can at least get a modicum of a beauty sleep, before being on my way to Chicago, that toddlin’ town.

Today, I shall be up at five and on my way to the airport at five-thirty, and then on my way to Chicago, that toddlin’ town. Please send your most excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on-time flight. Once in Chicago (that toddlin’ town), I shall be back here to read all the lovely postings. Tonight, I’ll be supping with Druxy, and prior to that I’ll probably visit the gym in the hotel and do an hour on the treadmill. I’ll also pick up the box I sent ahead – it arrived yesterday and is there waiting for me.

Tomorrow, of course, I will be at the celebrity signing show, where I will hopefully get to sign some things, which is, after all, the point. I have photos, books, Blu and Rays, and I’ve never done a Chicago signing so hopefully some people will remember me and come to visit. Not sure what’s happening after the show, but I’m sure it will involve a meal with someone.

Sunday is the second day of signing, and then I’ll be spending a few hours with Cindy Williams and her writer, talking about the show we’ll all be doing. Then Monday morning, bright and early, I shall be on my way home to Los Angeles, California, USA.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, go to the airport, be on my way to Chicago (that toddlin’ town), check in to the hotel, do the treadmill, and sup. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, various and sundried soundtracks and Kritzerland projects. Blu and Ray, the second half of Ben and Hur. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall be on my way to Chicago (that toddlin’ town) – so, don’t forget excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on-time flight.
