FUN, YET NOT FUN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have had one of those evenings that are fun yet not fun, watching a motion picture whilst running back and forth between TV and computer, trying to figure out the cues and how they were used for a soundtrack we’ll be issuing. Most of it’s easy, but then sometimes it’s just really hard to piece it together and one’s head begins to feel like it’s going to explode. After three hours, I finally got it all figured out except for one cue – and then I finally figured out that it was part of another cue and labeled weirdly – so we’ve got it all now, I think, although I have to pull the main title from the Blu and Ray itself – it sounds great so that won’t be a problem. Then there was mass confusion with the mastering guy, because the original cue titles I sent him were all incorrect – I’d since gotten the actual cue sheets from the film and had the real titles – I’m really glad I took that step because the titles I was given originally were really stupid. I think we’re finally all clear. Part of this craziness had to do with the fact that I did NOT get enough sleep. It was not really the evening I had in mind, but I did enjoy watching the motion picture for the first time since its original release.

The rest of the day was okay. As stated, I did not get enough sleep and I needed to get enough sleep, but apparently sleep did not care what I needed or didn’t need and therefore I was up at 8:45. I intended to do the four-mile jog early but that was not to be and I didn’t get out of here until noon again, when it was over 100 degrees. I spent the entire morning doing stuff on the computer – I don’t even remember what, frankly. The hours just go so damn fast. But after the jog I picked up two little packages but was dismayed to see that the replacement debit card still hadn’t arrived after eight days. I’m beginning to think that the mail place may have put it in someone else’s box and that someone either threw it out because they didn’t notice, or hasn’t picked up their mail. If it’s not here today, then I call paypal and they’ll have to stop that card and issue another but they’re going to have to send it via some protected way like Fed Ex or overnight mail – where it has to be signed for. This is causing such awful problems and I’m really tired of it. All the auto pay stuff I do has gotten completely screwed up and on it goes. As Babs and Donna said, Enough Is Enough. As Dick Van Patten said, Eight Is Enough.

Then I moseyed on over to the Bank of Bur where my editor is cutting our new web series. I saw the rough cuts of both New York, New York episodes and they’re pretty funny. The editor is a really talented fellow (he cuts all Joe Dante’s films) and his choices were, for the most part, excellent. I gave him some suggestions and we talked through some stuff and he’ll now do some little fixes and smoothing out stuff. One episode ran exactly what I want them to, six minutes, while the other ran a little over seven – I suppose as long as it’s funny it won’t matter, but we’re looking at ways to cut a minute out of it.

After that, I finally went and had something to eat – two scoops of egg salad and some toast. I’d wanted egg salad really bad the night before but they’d been out of it, so I satisfied that craving but good. Whilst supping, I got a call from Cindy Williams and her writer friend – but I’d had it written down that that call was supposed to be tomorrow, so I was not prepared to have that conference call, so we rescheduled it for Monday. Then I came home and began the long and arduous process I opened the notes with. And that was my day and that was my evening.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get some sort of beauty sleep before the insane day ahead of me.

Today, I have an absolutely insane day ahead of me and that wasn’t what I had in mind but it is what’s happening. I must get up early, and we ship out Another Man, Another Chance CDs. I don’t know how long that will take, but I have to be at John Boswell’s home environment at eleven-thirty for a work session with Alet. After that, I will hopefully pick up the very errant and truant replacement debit card (if not, I’ll call paypal and get another sent asap), I will hopefully pick up a package or three as well as hopefully pick up an important envelope. Then I’ll finally have time to do the four-mile jog around two. Then I’ll finally get to eat something light but amusing. Then I’ll have to catch up on e-mails and whatnot, and approve the new Nudie Musical home page we’re building on the Nudie website, which has not had anything done to it since the DVD came out in 2002. I’m told that the print is going to the pressing plant by Tuesday, so I’m pretty sure now that I’ll have discs for the Chicago Ray Courts show.

Tomorrow, I’m attending some party for the LA Festival of New Musicals, and then I’m supping with Melody and her folks and grandma. I’m really hoping Sunday will be a day of fershluganah rest.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, ship CDs, have a work session, hopefully pick up the errant and truant debit card, packages, and important envelope, do the four-mile jog, eat, and sit on my couch like so much fish. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, catching up on soundtrack listening. Blu and Ray, Brian De Palma’s Scarface. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland for whatever sleep I can get.
