OCTOBERFEST

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear reader, greetings from Chicago, that toddlin’ town. But before I go any further, might I just say that it is October! This year has flown by, like a gazelle eating a fruit cup. Yes, it’s October, the tenth month, and I hope and pray it will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. Let us have a veritable Octoberfest with merriment and mirth and laughter and legs.

The final day of September began at five in the morning, when I arose to do my morning ablutions, after which I was whisked to the airport. Even though I’d spent a little extra for “premiere line” so that you don’t have to wait in an endless line at security, there was no line – none. I was through security in two minutes and then went to the Red Carpet Club and relaxed until boarding time. I’d purchased Economy Plus and was, as always, very clear about the fact that purchasing such a ticket, as with JetBlue, allows you to board with the pre-boards. But the way the lady announced it,that was not the case. But I was told what I was told and I went right on that plane with the pre-boards and non one said boo (oob, spelled backwards). I had the exit row, which was very roomy and only two seats. I was very happy there. The flight flew by, like a gazelle hitting a raccoon with a baseball bat. The next thing I knew I was in a toddlin’ town. I got a taxi and was driven to the hotel, which was only ten minutes from the airport and only a twelve-dollar ride.

Druxy was in the lobby when I arrived, as he was meeting Bridget Hanley for a drink. I checked in and went up to the room. I really like this hotel (a Hilton), even though the Internet is not free – in this day and age that’s just really silly. I unpacked, set up the laptop, and then joined Druxy and Bridget in the bar. We chatted and had fun, then we went and scoped out where we’d be sitting. I’d originally hoped I’d be somewhere near Cindy Williams and gang, but after seeing the layout and where they were, I’m really happy I’m not. I’m next to Bridget and Druxy, and right across from Clint Walker, Diane Baker, and Millie Perkins. Also in our room is Barry Bostwick, so I’m sure we’ll get some nice traffic.

Mark Rothman came in to be at the Cindy and Penny table (he co-created Laverne and Shirley), so we put aside past petty problems and were friendly, which is much preferable to being negative, which I loathe. Bridget and I brought down our stuff and set up our tables, since the room was being watched and would then be locked. That way we don’t have to do it in the morning. Then Bridget, Mark, Druxy, and I went to the hotel restaurant for dinner. The food was quite good and the conversation was sparkling. Then we checked out the dealer room – most of the dealers set up in the morning, and I have no idea if I’ll actually know anyone.

After that, I went to the gym and did five miles on the treadmill at a decent clip, burning over 500 calories. Then I answered e-mails and then it was time to write these here notes. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep so I’m ready and alert and on my game for the celebrity signing show.

Today, I shall be doing the celebrity signing show – the first day. It begins at ten and I think goes until five. I’m looking forward to it – doing this in a city other than the Wood of Holly should be interesting. No matter what, I always have a good time and hopefully I’ll sell a few Blu and Rays, a book or two, and some photos. The good news is that I have two photos that have Cindy in them, plus the Blu and Ray, so they can get both of us at one time. After the show, I’m not sure what’s happening. Druxy tells me that the celebrity guests are invited to some big movie theater to see any movie of their choice plus have a free meal – limos take us there and return us. I’m not sure I want to do that – it really depends on whether anyone fun wants to have dinner, which is what I’d rather do. We shall see. I will, of course, have a full report.

Tomorrow is the second day of signing – that ends at four, and then I’ll be supping with Cindy and her writer friend, and doing work on her show. I’ll take my leave at nine, write the notes, then sleep, as I have to be up really early for my morning flight.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a signing show, I must sup, I must do the treadmill, and we’ll see what else is going on. Today’s topic of discussion: Who is the celebrity you were happiest to meet? Where did you meet them, and how was the experience? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping and praying that October will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
