THE LITTLE THINGS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the evening has gotten away from me – I hate when that happens, and yet, it happened and therefore there is little evening left and therefore I must write these here notes in a hurry so I can get some beauty sleep. Yesterday was a day of doing and going and going and doing, not necessarily in that order. It began on a high note (Bb) with Robert A. Harris’ “A few words about” column at the Home Theatre Forum, where he was very kind to both film and, more importantly, transfer, which he was very positive about. Having that in our pocket is very helpful indeed. And believe me, he would not say it if he did not think it, or vice versa or even versa vice. After that high note (Bb), I did the four-mile jog, had several telephonic conversations, made a decision to not have my New York choreographer do the LACC show (he’s very busy and could only devote one day to do his three numbers – but then what – the kids need someone to drill) and I’ve asked my LA choreographer to do it, and she thinks she’ll be able to. I picked up my box o’ stuff that I’d sent back from Chicago, along with a little box o’ DVDs and a CD I didn’t order. Have to find out what THAT’S about. Then I moseyed on over to LACC for a production meeting.

The meeting was very nice, very brief, and went very well. I met my stage manager, who seems like a terrific person, we discussed wardrobe, sound, rehearsal schedules (this show is going up QUICKLY!), and other pertinent stuff. I also saw a sketch of our set, which I absolutely loved – very simple – we’re basically in black with some levels and steps and a nice place for the piano and dear reader Jose to live. I’ll have some kind of nice music stand or podium off to the side, from whence I’ll do the narration. So, my next job is assembling a “script” for the SM – I have to have someone type up all the lyrics – I’ll gather up the music this weekend and get going on all that stuff.

Then I had some time to kill but instead I decided to let time live and I went to House of Pies to have my meal o’ the day – a chicken salad sandwich and four onion rings – the sandwich, I must say, was really yummilicious. And since it was a fairly light meal, I just had to have a slice of their incredible peanut butter pie – good thing I’d jogged. Then I went back to LACC and we had our auditions. We found three gals, but no guys auditioned, so we’re discussing what to do about that. I’m very excited about doing the show, though, and everyone is being wonderful about everything.

I then came home. I was on the 101 freeway and when I got to Barham everything came to a complete standstill – literally, all cars stopped dead in their tracks – at nine at night. Unbelievable. And there we sat, not moving an inch for ten minutes. Then we began to move and within thirty seconds I was going eighty miles an hour. So, the simple question would be WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON? There was no trace of any problems anywhere. Only in LA.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, there are a lot of little things to do and do them I shall, in a small way, of course, since they’re little. I shall get up, I shall do the four-mile jog, I shall have a visit from the helper, who will be picking up the Summer and Smoke invoices to prepare for the CDs arrival on Tuesday (along with the Nudie CD – so that, Summer and Smoke, and the Nudie blu and CD combos and single CD orders will all be shipped out that day – the single blu orders shipped out yesterday). My editor will be dropping by with our mini hard drive and we’ll be putting the Quick Time files for the first three episodes on my desktop so that all I have to do is upload to You Tube when the time comes. They’ve made me uncompressed full HD files and compressed 720p files, the latter being what gets uploaded to You Tube. Interestingly, I’ve already been contacted by You Tube about revenue sharing for Outside The Box – pretty amazing that that must only be based on the trailer. I’ll eat something light but amusing, I’m sure.

Tomorrow, I’ll be attending the Hollywood Show, only to hang out with Barry Pearl and to see old friend Susan Buckner and whoever else I might know and to say hey to a couple of dealer pals. Evening will be spent with Melody and family – mom has been going through some difficult health stuff but is doing well, and I haven’t seen them in two weeks, so that will be nice. Melody’s going to come and be in another episode of the web series, just because I like having her there.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, have a visit from the helper then editor, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, a new album of Morricone music sung by Hayley Westenra, who I’d never heard of before – but Morricone is the arranger, orchestrator and conductor so it’s quite pretty – she’s got a wispy soprano voice in today’s style – not my favorite, but I enjoyed it very much. Blu and Ray – maybe a Claude Chabrol, maybe The Lion King (which, shockingly, I’ve never seen). Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall be ready to do a day of little things.
