IF IT”S TUESDAY IT MUST BE A STUMBLE-THROUGH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle in suspenders. I can’t believe it’s already time for our Gardenia show and yet it is time for our Gardenia show. We had a fairly smooth stumble-through of the complete show yesterday. All three dildos were there, as was Mr. Jason Graae, and our wonderful company of players, Melody Hollis, Kevin Symons, Alet Taylor and Shannon Warne. It’s such a treat to hear great voices singing my songs – it’s a little bit of heaven. And to have three of the four original Dancing Dildos recreating their number for the first time in thirty-six years, well, that’s something special. How many shows have you attended where you get to see three original dildos? We had a few hiccups during the stumble-through, but they were minor and we worked each of them afterwards, and I also switched the order of two songs, as I hadn’t realized that Guy had two songs only one song apart. Guy Haines was a no-show again, so I sang his three songs – which is fine since I introduced all three originally. I wonder if he’ll show up tomorrow night?

Prior to our stumble-through, I’d had a really excellent night’s beauty sleep, sleeping close to nine and a half hours, which I really needed. Then I got up, answered e-mails and did a little work on the computer, then did the four-mile jog. After that, I did some errands and whatnot, picked up one little Fed Ex envelope, and then came home and got ready for the stumble-through.

After the stumble-through Melody and her folks and I went to Mo’s for a little supper. They had a special on the menu so I tried it – half a roast chicken in herbs and spices – it was fantastic. Instead of the french fries I had some rice, but I didn’t like it – it also came with steamed vegetables, and those were yummilicious. I hope they keep the chicken on the menu, as I’d definitely have it again. Then I came home, did some more finessing on my contextual commentary, and made the order switch to our set list and the commentary.

I spent some time listening to one of the oddest film scores I’ve ever heard. The film was previewed with this score, and then the executives from the studio panicked because the score got a horrible reaction as did the film BECAUSE of the score. It’s not that the music is bad – some of it is quite pleasing, but some of it is so odd that you just sit and scratch your head, and all of it is so completely wrong for the film it’s hard to imagine what the composer was thinking of. The composer, who’s someone I adore but not known for his film scores (he only has a handful to his credit), just came a cropper with this one. It was removed from the film and replaced by a great score by a great film composer. The original score, excluding source music, ran only about eighteen minutes. The new score was double that – we’ll be putting both on one CD – the final score by the great composer will be remixed from the original sixteen-track scoring tapes, so it should sound much better than the LP and CD release – the latter has been out of print for twenty years, so we’re hoping that people will love this release.

I’m also trying to plan out the rest of the year’s Kritzerland releases. I’m really behind on the next soundtrack release, which may have to wait an extra week. That’s fine because we’ll be announcing an off-Broadway cast album remaster along with Melody’s CD, so we can afford the extra week. I suspect I know what the release will be – a double bill of two scores from the 1960s – they share nothing in common whatsoever other than they’re composed by two of the coolest cats of the 60s.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get these here notes posted early and try to get another good night’s beauty sleep. I’m trying to rest my voice so it’s in decent shape for the show tonight, should Mr. Haines be a no-show.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep. I then have to put a box of Nudie CDs in the car as we’re giving all the attendees of the show a CD. I’ll also put my commentary and the set list in the car so I don’t forget them. Then I have to also put gas in the car or I won’t be going anywhere. Then I have to do the four-mile jog, after which I have to do some banking, hopefully pick up a package or three, and then attend sound check. After that, some of us will go sup across the street at Pomodoro, after which we’ll return to the Gardenia for dinner and show. I’ll have the small Caesar at Pomodoro, and just have some melon and prosciutto at the Gardenia. Really hoping for a nice-sized crowd. Then it’s show time. I’ll probably go out to eat after.

Tomorrow and Friday I have to get the LACC kids their music and a CD to work with, I have to continue assembling the script, I have to prep a CD announcement and I have to get together with Richard Sherman for him to sign CD booklets, hopefully that can happen on Saturday. So, a very busy rest of week and weekend and then on Monday we begin rehearsals for Lost and Unsung, A New Musical Revue.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, put gas in the motor car, hopefully pick up a package, attend a sound check, and do Kritzerland at the Gardenia 15. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall hopefully dream sweet dreams whilst rehearsing the three Guy Haines songs in my head, just in case.
