SHORT SHRIFT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I must be up at six in the morning to announce the new Kritzerland title – and I am here to tell you that I shall be going right back to bed after I do so. I must say, I find these run-throughs exhausting. I have to say, yakking for two hours is not something I enjoy, but I’m having fun and I’m almost happy with the commentary,
which is getting a bit looser now, which is the way I need it to be. Plus, I do my bit, then get up and go watch stuff so I can take notes. In any case, considering we’re missing a key actor this week, things went very well. One of our LACC actresses who’s been struggling with her solo number, came in last night and just nailed it – I was so proud of her. But everyone’s doing really well and the show is a whole lot o’ fun to watch. Not too many lyric flubs last night – I made one, but only because Alet made one in our song, and I only know my lyrics if she does hers – mine all play off what she’s singing. Our lighting designer had planned to start building looks and cues but the board was wonky and he couldn’t. Hopefully, that will be better this evening. The show is running like a machine, I must say – the running times of all the run-throughs are very consistent.

Prior to the run-through, I’d had a good night’s sleep, got up, answered e-mails, did some revisions to the patter, made CDRs, had to buy ink for the printer, had a quick sandwich and no fries, picked up a couple of packages but not the one that’s becoming alarmingly errant and truant. I never found the time to do the four-mile jog. Then I had to do a paper tech with our lighting designer. We basically just went over all the numbers and discussed color and look. Then my stage manager Tony and our ASM Alysha went across the street to CafĂ© 50s. They ate, I did not. And from the looks of what they ate, I shan’t be returning there.

And that was my day and that was my evening, not necessarily in that order. I obviously had no time to watch any motion pictures on any format and I have MANY to watch, including Super 8, Twelve Angry Men, and some German westerns, in addition to about twenty other things in a big stack, in addition to ten DVDs’ worth of the French Maigret series – the latter is what I really want to watch, but I’ve got four glorious days to do so starting on Thursday.
Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m enjoying these here short and succinct notes for a change. They have brevity, don’t you know? Not that I’m giving these here notes short shrift, I am most certainly not. No, they don’t have long shrift, but they don’t have short shrift either. But enough about long and short shrift, click away.

Today, I shall be up at six in the morning to announce the new Kritzerland title, and as soon as I’ve done so, it’s right back to bed for the likes of me. I’d like to get an additional three hours of sleep, then no matter what I’m doing the four-mile jog, after which I’ll do errands and whatnot, have something to eat, hopefully pick up a few packages, including the errant and truant one, then I have to write a little something, hopefully print out a LOT of orders, and then I shall be on my way to LACC, first to record our pre-show announcement, and then to have a complete run-through with some rudimentary lighting.

Tomorrow, since we’ll be missing three cast members, I’m giving the night off to everyone except the LACC kids and one of our guys – my intention is to set the lighting for each number and build those cues, so that come Monday when we return from the holiday, we’ll be able to do a cue-to-cue immediately.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce the new Kritzerland title, I must go back to sleep, I must do the four-mile jog, I must eat, I must hopefully pick up packages including the errant and truant one, I must record a pre-show announcement, and I must have a run-through. Today’s topic of discussion: What are the absolute best diners you’ve eaten in, and what is your favorite diner experience and meal? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall not give my dreams either long or short shrift.
