December 1, 2011:

AND NOW… DECEMBER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes like the wind, because we are in the middle of a really interesting wind storm – the power just went out for a moment, so I have no idea if that will happen again. It’s amazing to me that a two-second power out would automatically shut the computer down. Only one clock stopped working, so I have to reset that. So, let me get down to brass tacks or aluminum nails. First of all, it is December. So, it is my fervent hope and prayer that December will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. It’s certain to be an exciting month, what with my birthday, a Gardenia show, new releases, and then our annual Christmas Eve Do, and then our annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. I cannot believe this year is almost over – it went by faster than any other year I remember, like a gazelle with a tuning fork.

Our opening night, save for a couple of lighting problems, could not have gone better. We played to a sold out house of friendly folks. I was a tiny bit nervous at the top of the show, but then I just settled right in and had the best time. I was much more relaxed in act one, and did some off-the-cuff stuff that worked well. Richard M. Sherman’s guest shot, playing a cut song from Mary Poppins called The Chimpanzoo (delightful) was a big hit, and everyone seemed to have a great time. My voice held out fine and I could not have been more pleased. We’ll address the lighting problems before the matinee today. One of said problems had an actor singing an entire verse of a song in the dark – odd, since the cue worked fine at the dress/tech.

Prior to that, I’d spent a busy day attending to things – banking, doing the four-mile jog, eating some eggs, picking up a package, and resting. I went to LACC around five, listened to our matinee gal, and then just relaxed in my dressing room.

I’m afraid to write too much longer, since this windstorm is making everything very funky. It took ten minutes to get back on the Internet and I’m on now and want to stay on.

So, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below and I’ll write more about the show in the posts today, plus I need a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a really good night’s beauty sleep. I shall then do the four-mile jog, after which I’ll get ready and do down to LACC by one-thirty to work with the matinee girl, to make sure the light cues are fixed and to work on a couple of things that need a little fine-tuning, performance-wise. Then we have a matinee and an evening, so I guess I won’t make it to the mail place. I’ll probably just snack between shows and then go out after for a quick bite to eat.

Tomorrow I’ll really have to rest, and then we have a four o’clock rehearsal for the Gardenia show. The Internet keeps going in and out, so I’d better wrap up these here notes.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, do a matinee and evening and eat. Today’s topic of discussion: None – you’re on your own. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland hoping that we all have a December filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
