I REEK OF GARLIC

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I had a truly lovelier than lovely birthday, thanks to all you wonderful dear readers out there in the dark, my Facebook friends, and my friend friends and my darling daughter. It was a day of wonderful wishes and I loved every minute of it. I got up early, and just got in a creative mode, sat down, and wrote the music for episode eight of Outside The Box, which is the second episode of season two. I wrote three numbers for it – I obviously can’t write the set-up scene until I know who’ll be playing the lead, although in season two I am going to switch up the way we do the set-up scenes occasionally. But I had a lot of fun writing the numbers and though I’ll probably forget them, they’re all safely in my iRecorder so I just have to refresh my memory and I have it all written down in my shorthand. That took about three hours so I boxed myself in in terms of jog time, hence I had no time to jog. Instead, I picked up a few packages, then had a really interesting meeting with the head of the Theatre Academy at LACC, which potentially could bode well for something next year. Then I came home, looked at the covers for our next two releases, asked for a couple of minor changes, saw them and approved them. I didn’t get to begin the liner notes, so that’s for today.

Then I was taken for a nice birthday dinner at Barone’s – I had a salad, a couple of pieces of garlic bread (potent, baby, potent), and scampi (potent, baby, potent). I tell you, I REEKED of garlic. Then I came back home, tried to check out the transfer on a new region B Blu and Ray only to find that the menu items weren’t usable – I’m sure this has something to do with the endless “improvements” they make to authoring Blu-Rays and I’m sure the player needs a firmware update but unfortunately my all-region player is no longer made and therefore there ARE no upgrades. So, until I get a new all-region player I won’t be able to watch the disc. I’m surprised it loads at all – you get the copyright screen, and you get the menu, its music and images, and the menu items (film, chapters, etc) are all there but you can’t highlight and/or click on them. Very frustrating. It’s actually the first disc that has been a problem in that player. Even stuff that wouldn’t play in my Samsung (Avatar) played in the Momitsu. Go know. The disc, the uncut version of Sergio Leone’s The Colossus Of Rhodes, is from Germany. I don’t know why, but I took a chance on it – the amazon Germany site said it only had German and Italian language tracks and German subtitles. But I’d never seen the uncut version so I thought I’d just kind of watch it for the imagery. But there is, in fact, an English track, so someday I WILL get to watch it.

I got an astonishing number of birthday wishes on Facebook, and it was fun to read all of them. So, all in all, a perfectly perfect day and evening, although I still REEK of garlic. I Reek Of Garlic – wasn’t that a TV series starring Richard Carlson, all about the Commies?

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get some semblance of beauty sleep.

Have I mentioned that I REEK of garlic? I’m offending even me. Today, if I’m to do the four-mile jog I have to be out the door by ten-fifteen. I’m lunching with dear reader and musical director Jose at Musso and Frank at twelve-fifteen. Then I’ll do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, have a meeting at three, and then I have to write two sets of liner notes, which I must finish by this evening.

The weekend will include a little work session with Mr. Grant Geissman, but other than that I hope it will be a restful and nice weekend, in which I can catch up on some Blu and Ray watching and being the box two set of Maigret episodes.

Don’t forget to check out the new Filichia on Friday over at the Kritzerland website.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, I must lunch with Jose, I must hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, I must have a meeting, and I must write two sets of liner notes. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, a Lola Albright two-fer, and lots o’ soundtracks to catch up on. Blu and Ray, The Lady Vanishes, Man Of The West, Navajo Joe and many others. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where, I’m quite sure, I shall REEK of garlic.
