SHOW FOUR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon. We had a really fun fourth show last night – about a half a house of very nice, friendly folk, including our very own Mr. Barry Pearl, his ever-lovin’ Cindy, and our pal Kenny Morse, lawyer and friend Ron Lachman, and a couple of other people I knew. I adlibbed more than I normally do – it was that kind of audience, so that was fun. Barry’s only criticism was that he would like me to be completely off book (I read from a script on a music stand) – I understand his point, but I would really be uncomfortable doing that and won’t. However, had we had a full four-week rehearsal period and a run of a few weeks, I’m sure I would not use the script very much – I’m using it less at each performance. I have enough trouble getting through the one thing I have to do by heart at the top of the show – I got through it last night for the first time letter perfect. The performers keep finding new stuff, which is fun to watch – everyone was especially strong last night.

Prior to our performance, I’d gotten up thirty minutes earlier than I would have liked to thanks to the ringing of the telephonic device. I listened to The People In The Picture master, I did the four-mile jog, I had some matzo brei and toast, I picked up several fun packages but no important envelope – one of the packages was a lovelier than lovely early birthday gift from FJL and his ever-lovin’ Skip. I then came home and we had our second Gardenia rehearsal, which went very well indeed. Basically, I just tried to keep my mouth shut all day and mostly succeeded. Then I got ready and I drove Melody down to LACC.

And so, we’re down to our final two performances. One disappointment about this show is that no hainsies/kimlets came in for it – very different than when we did The Brain From Planet X, but I do understand that times is hard, times is hard. It’s been a lot of fun and I’m hoping we can come back next year and do another little fun, small musical show. I think the kids have had a blast and apparently they have some good and talented and musical kids coming up.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really need to try and get at least my eight hours of beauty sleep, so that I have the stamina to get through our two shows today.

Today, I shall arise by nine, do the four-mile jog, eat some eggs or something, then get ready to do our two o’clock matinee. Since that will come down at four and we won’t have to be back until seven-fifteen, I’ll probably just go home and rest and recharge, maybe even take a nice, hot shower – I’ll stop at the mail place and hopefully pick up a package or three and an important envelope. Then we’ll do the eight o’clock show, our closing performance. Afterwards, the cast and our stage manager and ASM will all go to Genghis Cohen for some great Chinese food – my way of saying thank you to everyone who worked so hard on the show.

Tomorrow will be a day of complete and total rest. I do not want to do one thing other than relax, watch motion pictures, and eat something light but amusing – I may even take a day off from the four-mile jog. The only actual work I may do just to get it out of the way, is to write the short commentary intros to the three new songs for the Gardenia show – otherwise the commentary is the same as last year. Monday, I will have an obscene number of Kritzerland bills to pay, Tuesday we have our stumble-through, Wednesday is sound check and then show, and Thursday is my very own birthday. Then the only things left to do for the rest of the year are prepping and releasing either one or two final CDs for the year, and making copious notes for what I hope will be my new book, which I’ll be starting on January 1.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, eat something very light (maybe even just a bagel and/or toast – or a sweet roll), then do our matinee, come back home and hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, rest, and then go back to do our final performance, after which I am here to tell you I will pig out on Chinese food. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the biggest benefit you’ve gotten out of the Internet since you first joined? And what do you think is the biggest benefit of your computer? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and get ready for shows five and six.
