SHOWS TWO AND THREE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we have survived shows two and three of Lost and Unsung. Show two was our matinee – when I arrived I was told it was going to be VERY light, maybe fifteen people. But I guess we got a lot of last-minute walk-up traffic because it was almost full. It was a high energy crowd and the show was equally high energy and really good. Lots of laughs, lots of good applause, and everyone felt really good about it. What has come to light is that the number that gets the biggest hand is, of all things, Silverware from We Take The Town. The audience just eats it up. Other big ovations go to Disneyland, Multitudes of Amys, Make The Most Of Your Music, and If I Can’t Take It With Me. But everything else also scores big hands. We really only had less than two hours between shows – I stayed in my dressing room and relaxed. Show two’s audience WAS small – about thirty people. We lost about eight of them at intermission – later I was told that those folks did not speak English – what that has to do with the price of watermelon is anyone’s guess, but the bolted at intermission. The rest of the crowd was quiet but appreciative – only a few real laughs and I really had to pry them out of this crowd. Funnily, they did give hefty mitts to all the numbers, so it’s clear they were having a good time. I was happy to have made it through the two back to back shows – Saturday’s matinee and evening will be a bit easier since we have four hours between shows.

Prior to the matinee, I’d arisen after a good night’s beauty sleep. I did the four-mile jog – I was expecting to see much more debris than I saw – usually when there are heavy winds like that there are a lot of downed branches and such, but that wasn’t the case. After that, all I had time to do was get ready and head over to LACC. I never had time to pick up packages or mail or even put gas in the motor car. So, lots to do today.

After the show, I’d only eaten a candy bar and chips all day, so I stopped at Gelson’s and got some bagels, a tiny thing of sausage and peppers, and some chicken tenders – that was my meal o’ the day. I gotta tell you, when this and the next Gardenia show is over, other than putting out one or two new CDs, that is IT for this year – the only other work I’m doing is making notes for what I hope will be my new book. I’m resting, I’m playing, I’m celebrating my sixty-fourth year, I’m having a Christmas Eve Do and a Rockin’ New Year’s Eve partay here at haineshisway.com and hopefully picking up packages and important envelopes aplenty.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a really good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a really good night’s beauty sleep. I shall then do the four-mile jog, eat something very light, listen to the new master of The People In The Picture, approve it, relax, adjust the commentary for the next Gardenia show (it’s basically the same Christmas show from last year with the addition of three new songs), hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope and then have our second Gardenia rehearsal, at which I shall not make a peep (peep, spelled backawards). Then I’ll be on my way to LACC for our fourth performance. I have a few friends seeing the show tonight, including our very own Mr. Barry Pearl, so that will be fun. I still haven’t gone out after the show and I don’t know that that will happen until closing night.

Tomorrow, I’ll be jogging by nine, for she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early. After that, I’ll come home, get ready, and then be on my way to do our final two shows. I think there’ll be a Genghis Cohen gathering after the final show, at least that’s my plan at the moment. Sunday will truly be a day of rest – I’ll just sit on my couch like so much fish the entire day and evening.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, eat something light, listen to a master, put gas in the motor car, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, have a rehearsal, and then do a show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, nothing – no time. DVD, come Sunday I’ll finish my last two Maigret films. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall hopefully dream peaceful and calming dreams, after which I shall hopefully awaken with my voice strong again – send some excellent vibes and xylophones as insurance.
