CROSSING THE THRESHOLD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, shockingly we have crossed the 100,000 word threshold. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, we have crossed the 100,000 word threshold. I wrote about twenty-five pages yesterday. I also had to straighten out yet more timelines and I did so by having a telephonic conversation with my former business associate in the label whose history I am now writing about. I was completely off on several things, so I had to do a lot of cutting and pasting before continuing on. I also did a lot of finessing in the morning, so much so that I had no time to write one new page before I headed out for some lunch.

Once back, I wrote twelve pages, then had the long chat, then cut and pasted, then wrote more new pages all throughout the evening, with occasional rest periods. Other than that, I picked up no packages but did pick up the important envelope. I paid some large Kritzerland bills and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching Exodus on Blu and Ray. The transfer is more than acceptable in terms of sharpness – it’s quite pleasing and so is the color at times, while at other times it’s a little brown for my taste. But this is so far and above the DVD that it’s like watching a different film. For fans of the film, it’s a major, major upgrade. The transfer actually gets better as it goes along and the stereo sound is nice to finally have. No, it’s not from 70mm or six-track stereo, but I’m happy to have a disc of this film that I can actually watch.

After the movie, I wrote more pages, and then I made a bunch of notes about the upcoming twenty or thirty pages, just to make sure I don’t forget certain details. I took a hot shower, ate a few snacks, did stuff on the Internet, and wrote just a few other little things, little additions.

I am, of course, approaching a section of the book that’s not going to be pleasant to write but I must forge ahead and tell it the way it happened. I’ve already decided not to ever editorialize in this section and I’m intending not to dwell on anything unnecessarily. I just want the basic facts stated as unemotionally as I can (I can also certainly talk about MY emotional state – that’s fair game), how it went down, and how it played out. I’m not sure how many pages that will take up, but I’m now pretty convinced that the book will not be longer than There’s Mel. It should be right around the same page count, which, in manuscript terms was 533.

As I approach this new section I am going to recommend to my friends that they not e-mail me or talk to me until I’m done writing. I can be very strange during that kind of writing, when I’m sure I will be remembering things that made me very unhappy.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep because I’ve got a lot of writing to do and must be very clear-headed about all of it.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s sleep. I shall finesse, write a few new pages, do some banking, eat, maybe try to jog, hopefully pick up a package or three, and then I shall buckle down, Winsocki and try to do at least twenty pages.

Tomorrow, I shall do the same routine exactly. I may have an early dinner with friends but otherwise it’s an all-writing day. Monday, I’ll print out pages and take them to muse Margaret – she’ll be getting a lot of pages, probably 160 of them, maybe even more. And then I’ll continue on and do the last two chapters of the book. I’m thinking I’ll be finished sometime this week, but some of that is dependent on whether muse Margaret likes what she reads and whether I have to do any adjusting before moving on. I also have to finish assigning the songs for the Kritzerland show and we have our first rehearsal next Friday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, finesse, write, bank, maybe jog, hopefully pick up some packages, write, write, and write. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films of Otto Preminger? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland having crossed a major threshold. Here’s hoping for a lovelier than lovely Saturday.
