WRITING, WRITING, WRITING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was another day of writing, writing, writing (that is three writings). I finessed the previous day’s writing then over the course of the day and evening did an additional twenty-two pages. Just when I thought I had the year I’m writing about all figured out yet another album popped up – exactly WHEN I had time to do it or Larry had time to orchestrate it is anyone’s guess. I added it to the only place it made sense, then called Harvey Schmidt who is now trying to find out exactly when we recorded Colette Collage. In any case, I’m very close to being done with this particular year and once I am then we will move much more quickly through the subsequent years. Muse Margaret called and said she really is enjoying this book – she finished all 161 pages I’d given her and had only three tiny little things that bothered her, all of which I fixed quickly. One involved cutting one paragraph and one sentence, and the other two involved a tiny bit of rewriting. I have to say again, she knows when something isn’t feeling right and she’s always correct about it, which is why I don’t even question it – I just change it. The table where I have my computer is ridiculous right now – strewn with papers with scribbled notes I can barely read, and CDs everywhere. Once I finish this section I’m in, then I can put away the CDs, although I’ll be pulling others out. I did have a great deal of fun writing about the Hello, Dolly cast album recording session, and I say it like it happened, so I’m sure some fans of the star will not be thrilled to read that part – I just saw no reason to sugar coat what really happened and I just tell it without making extra comments about it. That’s the most fun way, and it is pretty amusing no matter how you slice it.

Other than that, I have sort of settled into a daily routine now – I get up, I finesse, I write two or three new pages, then I go eat. Then I pick up packages if there are any, then I come back and begin the major portion of the day’s writing. I tend to do at least an additional ten pages during that time. Then I take a break, watch something, and then usually do another five to seven pages, at which point I can no longer function.

So, yesterday, I got up after being a little too lazy, finessed, wrote a couple of new pages, then went to the Studio Café and had some breakfast quesadilla that was quite good. Ed Asner was sitting with a bunch of cronies nearby. I then picked up one package that contained thirty count them thirty Cherry Ripe candy bars, which went directly into my freezer save for the two I had to eat right away. Then I wrote for a few hours, then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the second Maigret movie in box set three. It wasn’t a top-tier Maigret but it was still excellent and had a great cast. After that, I wrote some more pages and began working on the packaging of an upcoming release. I got the tray card information all done and began structuring the liner notes, so I’ll be able to get that one done by the end of this evening. Then I have one other to do. I also approved the master, so that’s ready to go, and I also worked out the publishing deal to include the film’s rejected score, so we’re all good to go on that.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep and be alert and alive and ready for another day’s writing.

Today, I shall get up, I shall finesse, I shall write some new pages, I shall eat, I shall hopefully pick up packages, I shall write, I shall do liner notes, I shall watch another Maigret film, and I shall write.

Tomorrow is more of the same, as is Friday. I think there’s something going on Friday night but I cannot remember what it is. Saturday I’m seeing a matinee of Noises Off, then supping with Melody and family to discuss various and sundried things. Sunday I’m judging at some singing thing, but on all those days I will be writing, too.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some kind of jog, finesse, write, eat, hopefully pick up packages, write, do liner notes, watch a Maigret, write, and write. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I will hopefully not dream of the star of Hello, Dolly!
