HOLES AND PUDDING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is very late and I must write these here notes in a hurry because my lids are heavy and heavy are my lids. I shall dispense with any and all formalities and get right to the meat of the notes, or, for our vegetarians, the cabbage of the notes. I was awakened by an early telephonic call from the East Coast singer – she and Lanny played me a couple of the fixes I’d suggested and they sounded fine. After that, I got up, did some work on the computer, and then did a four-mile jog. Then I wrote a new little ditty for one of the Outside the Box episodes (it came to me whilst jogging), then I picked up one package, then I came home and did some more work on the computer. Then various humans arrived and we headed down to the Beach of Long to sup and then see Miss Alet Taylor in God of Carnage.

We went to Islands. I must say, their bacon cheeseburgers are superb and quite yummilicious, and I’m afraid I quite overdid it on the bottomless fries. In attendance were Barry Pearl, Jane Noseworthy, and Juliana Hansen. Alet joined us about an hour into our meal. We had lots o’ laughs and the conversation was sparkling.

Then we walked to the theatre. We went the wrong way, then had to turn around and walk about four blocks the other way. Then we went the wrong way again, but finally found the theater. We took our seats and then the play began.

I’d seen God of Carnage here at the Ahmanson Theatre with the original Broadway cast of James Gandolfini, Marcia Gay Harden, Hope Davis, and Jeff Daniels. I really thought it a terrific production and could not imagine a better cast. In fact, I wondered if the play would hold up when done by a different cast. The theater in Long Beach is a beauty. The set was similar to the set at the Ahmanson. I’m happy to say that I still thought it a very good play. Alet was terrific and every bit as good as Hope Davis. But I’m afraid the other members of the Broadway company were still so indelibly printed on my memory banks that the other performers didn’t quite reach those peaks – the Marcia Gay Harden role was done by a very good actress who did a fine job – but Miss Harden just tore into the role and I kind of missed that ferocity. The two men of this company could not compete – they were fine, but this play needs better than fine. Lots of laughs, and it moved along very quickly.

After the play, Jane, Barry, Juliana, Alet, and the other actress from the play and I went and had some dessert. Barry ordered donut holes with a caramel sauce and I had cherry bread pudding with whipped cream. Barry and I got off on a tangent with what we were eating – holes and pudding. I said they should do a new cop show called Holes and Pudding, like a new Starsky and Hutch. We kept that going for quite a while. Then we drove home – it’s quite a long drive.

Once home, I finally answered the day’s e-mails. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get some beauty sleep.

Today, I shall do some casting work, assign songs for the next Kritzerland show (we’re just waiting for confirmation for our final cast member), maybe jog, hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, and then I’ll be on my way to the big book fair in the Dena of Pasa. I’m really looking forward to it. I may or may not be supping with a book dealer friend after the show – if not, then I’ll definitely be doing that tomorrow night.

Tomorrow, I probably don’t have to attend The Hollywood Show as Cindy Williams has opted out. That’s good news, actually, as I really don’t want to give those buffoons who run that show my money. So, I’ll probably go back to the book fair. Sunday, I must be up early and judging that singing contest – the finals. That’s going to take up about four hours of my day, and then I’m supping with the family Hollis.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some casting work, assign songs, maybe jog, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, and then attend a big book fair. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, the soundtrack to The Artist. Blu and Ray, maybe Lady and the Tramp, and DVD, more Maigret. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall create my new TV show, Holes and Pudding.
