KRITZERLAND AT STERLING’S 18

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the eighteenth Kritzerland show is done and it was great. Thanks to the Stupid Bowl and some people who obviously don’t know what a TIVO is, we had less people than last time, but it was still pretty full and a wonderful crowd it was. I must say, everyone loves the food at Vitello’s, so they’re already in a good mood when the show begins. And what a show it was. The cast delivered in spades – Juliana Hansen, Melody Hollis, Jane Noseworthy, Lauren Rubin, and Alet Taylor. Melody’s The Dressing Song brought down the house as we knew it would. And when I told the story of how she typed out her lyrics for Feed The Birds, and her computer didn’t recognize the word “tuppence” and tried to suggest “tampons” instead – well, a nice huge laugh. Richard Sherman was his usual delightful self. I even got to sing a song, I’ll Take You Dreaming from The Court Jester. Shelly Markham played wonderfully. Andrea Marcovicci was in attendance, as was my friend Kay Cole, and I was thrilled that Michelle Nicastro’s husband made it down. I just don’t think it could have gone better. Richard Sherman brought me a little gift, a copy of the book Mary Poppins, printed to coincide with the London opening of the show – he did a sweet inscription. After the show, a few of us went downstairs so that I could eat – I had the pasta special – pasta with chicken and mushrooms in a pink sauce that was out of this world. So, now it’s onto Kritzerland 19, The Ira Gershwin Album. We already have our guest star – after last night’s show, Andrea Marcovicci came to me and asked if she could be our guest and do The Saga of Jenny and, of course, I jumped at it.

Prior to all that, I got up rather late, took the new book to Staples to get a couple of Xerox copies – one for one of our proofers and one for me. Then I did a three-mile jog, did some work on the computer, and relaxed, after which it was time to go to our sound check.

As some here know, sometimes I get into discussion board dramas on the Blu and Ray sites. I do this because I cannot let stand the stupidity and misinformation and downright ridiculous things people post. I know I shouldn’t even bother visiting these sites, but I do anyway. Recently, one person in particular had been going on and on about the screen caps of To Kill A Mockingbird, saying charming things like Universal had “raped” a classic. Over and over – and he hadn’t even seen the damn disc itself. He would not stop. Then he finally got the disc and begrudgingly said it was “good” but not great, and hated the grain removal on the optical push-ins. What he did not do, as so many of these “people” do not do is he did not apologize for being wrong about the screen caps, despite many of us telling him (and others) that you simply cannot judge like that. Then I posted my thoughts on the transfer, which, as you know, were highly positive, save for ONLY the optical push-ins of which there are eight that last less than six seconds and two that last about a minute. I wish they hadn’t done what they did but it does not take away from the other 98% of the transfer that’s absolutely terrific. “Good” doesn’t begin to cut it, I’m afraid. Robert Harris also posted his thoughts, which were similar to mine. But every time I’d post this idiot would have to post, telling me I was a “Universal worshipper” and how dare I comment on his posts. Well, it’s a discussion board – make a post and its open for response. Like all these cretins, he then got personal and nasty. I posted in response telling him that everyone on that board could see what he was doing and that I hadn’t been personal or nasty to him.

Some days went by, and I made a post and he just had to respond and in the response he made a snarky comment about how I’d “ripped him apart.” Of course, I asked him to show me one example of this ripping him apart. What does he do? Nothing. He will not say he’s sorry, he will not admit he was wrong and he’s just so typical of these boards. Then another poster actually gathered together all of his negative comments in one post, then told the truth – that since Mr. Harris and my positive reports were posted the guy has done nothing but backpedal. Then the guy responds to that by dancing around everything. What is wrong with people? Is this guy a dunce like this in real life or does the Internet just bring this out in people? But, thus it has been and thus it will always be. Read my short story, Your Worst Nightmare and you’ll really understand how I feel about this stuff.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall be scanning. This will be a day of scanning and scanning is what this day will be. I’m bringing a LOT of photos over to the Kritzerland designer’s home environment and he’s going to scan in a lot of them. That way, I can just present Grant with a CD with all the photos on it, which will save us a lot of time – Grant is very slow in the scanning department, so this will alleviate that big chunk of time. That will probably take a couple of hours, then I’ll have some lunch, then hopefully pick up a couple of packages, then maybe jog. Then I’m going to get John Boswell at least five more Outside the Box songs, and also try to cast the Kritzerland show. I also have to figure out when I can go to Washington, DC.

The rest of the week will be meetings and meals, seeing Alet in God of Carnage, and attending a book fair, which I’m very excited about. And hopefully I’ll have the first two proofers’ comments back at some point this week and I can start getting them entered into the manuscript.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, scan, hopefully pick up packages, maybe jog, get songs to Boswell, cast, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your discussion board experiences – if you haven’t done the boards, what have been the most off-putting things on Facebook or any of that kind of stuff? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall dream lovely things about Kritzerland’s eighteenth show.
