PROOF

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the proofing continues, and it is slow, laborious work but it must be done. I’m not finding any significant errors, just some hyphens that escaped being converted to em dashes, some bad breaks at bottom of pages (hyphen across a page), and a handful of bad breaks at ends of sentences – I’m not doing most of what we used to do, but for any five-letter word that hyphens after two letters, those we’re fixing. Besides the whopper of an error I found right away, the worst thing I’ve found is a missing close parens, and I’m deleting two or three words a couple of times. But overall, these changes shouldn’t take too long to implement. I’m still waiting on the final cover art and hopefully will have it today. I’m halfway through now, and will finish another 100 pages at least today, maybe more. Then I’ll finish the rest tomorrow morning.

That was basically my day, with a few breaks here and there. I was up by nine, proofed for a bit, then went for an early lunch to Bird’s, where I continued proofing whilst eating and continued eating whilst proofing. I had the quarter chicken (white meat), and two sides – mac-and-cheese and cole slaw. It was a wonderful and not too filling meal. I need to go to Bird’s more, as I truly love it. Then I went next door to Counterpoint and picked up an LP cover we need for an upcoming release. Then I went to LACC where we had our little meeting about the memorial service for former theater department head Norman Mennes. After that, I came back to the Valley, picked up one little package, and then came home. Once there, I continued proofing after answering some e-mails. After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched two more episodes of Downton Abbey, both excellent, although I am getting just a little tired of the endless “drama” with Bates’s wife, and the machinations of O’Brien and Thomas. A little of that goes a long way, but it seems like the writers use those folks whenever they feel they need to up the drama – they don’t need to. We’ve had the Bates drama, now let him be already. It will be interesting to see how a couple of major plot developments in episode five play out. But, all in all, very entertaining and enjoyable, with a great cast of players. The transfers continue to exhibit jerky motion in any moving shot, so I’m going to try the disc in my other player and see if it’s the same there.

After that, it was back to proofing. I did that until I felt I was in danger of missing stuff, then I stopped. Then I did stuff on the Internet and that was that. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall proof all the livelong day and evening, with occasional breaks to do other things. I shall eat at some point, I shall hopefully pick up packages, I shall pay some Kritzerland bills, I shall finish liner notes for two projects, I shall proof, and I shall watch more episodes of Downton Abbey.

Tomorrow, I’ll find out if Grant and I are finishing up the book (it will either be tomorrow or Saturday), so I’ve just left the day open. If we do the book, then that will take up a good deal of time. If we don’t, the time will be spent on the new Kritzerland releases and the contextual commentary for the Kritzerland show. The weekend is in flux, but I do know that Sunday is our Annual Oscar Bash and the only place you’ll need to be for Oscar festivities.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the old-fashioned waltz, because today is the birthday of our very own Druxy. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own Druxy. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DRUXY!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, proof, eat, hopefully pick up packages, pay bills, finish liner notes, proof, and watch more Downton Abbey. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your Oscar predictions for this year? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland so I can proof some more.
