RARE FRITTERS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what is it with apple fritters? I’ve been buying apple fritters on and off for the last three years, always at the same donut jernt. They have NEVER been out of apple fritters. Ever. There were so many apple fritters just sitting there like so much fish it wasn’t even funny. So, they started to make half-size versions and those sat there, too, save for my occasional purchases. But, once again, I think the populace has been reading these here notes, because my talk of apple fritters has suddenly caused them to be quite popular with the populace. How else to explain that the last FIVE times I’ve gone to my donut jernt they have been completely out of apple fritters? I finally asked about it yesterday because I could stand it no more. And I was told that apple fritters have suddenly become hip and trendy and they sell out by noon. Isn’t that ridiculous? I best stop talking about food because I’m tired of not being able to get what I want. I then went to another donut store and guess what? They, too, were out of apple fritters and told me the same thing. I am glad to lead the way, but not when it causes me apple fritter grief. Damn them, damn them all to hell. The apple fritter, dear readers, is an endangered species. The next thing you know, they’ll start showing up on eBay as “Rare Fritters.” End of apple fritter rant.

Otherwise, yesterday was a fine day, all things considered. I woke up after a glorious ten hours of sleep, which I really needed. I then did some work on the computer, then went and had a late breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. After that, I picked up two count them two packages, then came home. Once home, I did some more work on the computer, some work at the piano, and our final singer came and got her music – we are now, at long last, fully cast. I’m giving a newcomer a chance – she was part of the singing contest last week and was very good. After all that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish and decided to see what all the Downton Abbey brouhaha was all about.

Last night, I watched the first two episodes of season one of Downton Abbey. It took me about fifteen minutes of episode one to get involved. There were a lot of characters talking very quickly in occasionally hard to understand accents, but once I got the lay of the land I began to get interested. And as soon as Maggie Smith showed up, I was hooked. I suppose it’s kind of an Upstairs/Downstairs kind of show, with life from both the servant’s point of view, and the rich people’s point of view. It’s very well written and directed, and the cast could not be better. By the end of episode one I couldn’t wait to get to episode two, and I’m looking forward to the other five episodes of season one, which I’ll watch over the next few days. Season two is already on its way to me. And then I think I have to watch the Christmas special? Does that fit in chronologically after season two’s final episode? I really hope the quality of the writing can sustain. And Maggie Smith is simply one of the greatest actresses ever. The quality is excellent.

After that, I did some more work on the computer, then a friend and I moseyed on over to the Eclectic CafĂ©, where I had a Cajun pasta (angel hair) dish that was very good. Angel hair is very light, as was the little bit of marinara sauce, and there really couldn’t have been more than four ounces of pasta.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I need another good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I have already found out we will not be working on the book. I’m told that could happen tomorrow, since it’s a holiday, and I’ve told Grant that I would very much appreciate it if it didn’t get pushed later, as I’m trying to get everything done and to the publisher in the next two weeks. If he begins to let this slide, it will never get done, so I have to be strong about it and hopefully he’ll just do the three or four hours of initial work and then it’s all easy after that – just proofing once, entering those fixes, and that’s it. So, today I may go try to buy an apple fritter before noon. Otherwise, it’s more Downton Abbey and eating something light. I may even make something here, or just get a Subway club.

Tomorrow will hopefully be a working on the book day, at least for a few hours. I also have to finish two sets of liner notes and to prep three releases. I have to also write a contextual commentary for the Kritzerland show. So, a busy little week.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, maybe do a jog, maybe buy an apple fritter, write liner notes, eat something light but amusing, and watch more episodes of Downton Abbey. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I go to eBay to search for some rare fritters.
