THE BOOK AND I

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon. I had a completely exhausting day, with most of the exhausting part happening late in the afternoon. I got up after a good night’s sleep, then began doing the home stretch, proofing-wise. Then I went and had a sandwich and no fries or onion rings, but a nice piece of chocolate moose pie. Whilst eating, I finished proofing Ye Olde Book. Or Ye Newe Book, depending on how you look at it. Just before I left to eat, I’d received the finished art for the book cover, and I absolutely loved it. He’d done a mock-up of the cover using Grant’s text and it looked great. So, I had him send the hi-rez files to Grant so we’d have that to work with.

After food, I picked up one package and no important envelope – since the important envelopes have been arriving on Friday for the last few weeks, as I’d requested, this did not make me all that happy. Hopefully it will arrive today. Then I came home, answered e-mails, did some work on the computer, and downloaded the master for one of our upcoming albums – I’ll listen to that today. Then it was time to go to Grant’s house to enter all the little things I’d found to fix.

We spent about ninety minutes entering the fixes, and then another forty-five minutes captioning the photographs that Grant had already entered. The fixing of the fixes was a little grueling but we got through it all and the captions were fun to do. We then assembled the cover, using the new finished hi-rez art. It looked swellicious. Grant then mocked up the back cover, which now awaits two blurbs – I’m really hoping those come this weekend. The flap copy still needs to be written and then I’ll be going through the book one final time – just making sure every fix went in correctly, and giving everything one final once-over. I’m not going to read it again – basically this is just to make sure Grant didn’t mistype anything. And then it will all go to the publishers, sometime early in the week. I’m thinking the book will be ready for preorders in mid-March.

After all that, I was quite exhausted. I stopped at Gelson’s to get a snack, which I felt I deserved. Then I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched episode eight of Downton Abbey. It was really excellent, although I thought they pushed the drama needlessly with one character. After her big scene, it was all set up for another character to perhaps move on, but then they pushed it the one step to create yet more drama. I gather this gets resolved in the Christmas at Downton Abbey movie. But the show is truly addictive. It’s fascinating how this has caught the fancy of the public – it’s become PBS’s Mad Men. So, I’m looking forward to Christmas at Downton Abbey, which I’ll get to tomorrow.

After that, I did some more work on the computer. After today, book matters will almost completely be off my plate and I can give full concentration to everything else. There is a ton of stuff upcoming that will need all the attention I can give.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must hie myself to the bedroom environment so I can get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall jog for sure, then I’ll do some errands and whatnot, then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, then I’ll finish liner notes and blurbs for the upcoming releases (we’ll announce this Wednesday or Thursday), and then I’ll do a long drive to Fullerton, where I shall sup with the family Hollis, and then we’ll all see Miss Kim Huber starring in The Sound of Music. I truly wish they were doing the show as written for the stage, but I’m afraid this is yet another mish-mash that includes the film songs.

Tomorrow is, of course, our Annual Oscar Bash, and this is the only Oscar partay you need to attend. Prior to the Bash, I’ll be watching a few motion pictures and relaxing. The upcoming week is jam-packed with things to do, places to go, and people to see. Monday is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, which I’m looking forward to. I have to buckle down, Winsocki and write the damn contextual commentary, which I don’t think is going to be that easy for this one. Then I have meetings, meals, and our second rehearsal, our stumble-through and then show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, finish liner notes and blurbs, sup, and then see The Sound of Music. Today’s topic of discussion: What are the most romantic movies you’ve ever seen? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that the book is now basically put to bed, save for any last minute changes.
