COMING HOME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I must be up early and on my way to the airport, and then on my way back to the Bank of Bur. So, please send strong and most excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on-time flight home. Last night, the East Coast singer did her show last evening and it went very well. There is still a lot of work to do, but the little things we added and cut all worked well, and now it’s just getting it all to fit like a glove and be comfortable – for everyone: singer, musical director, bass player. I wish we’d had a little advance time in the room itself – I have to say I really loathe Don’t Tell Mama – it’s just a weird room and it has zero sophistication. Had we actually worked the room I could have made some further adjustments, but still, the show gets better each time she does it, and now seeing it live with an audience has helped me see where we need to go from here. The East Coast singer is a beautiful, talented woman and a very conscientious hard worker, and I know she wants this show to be the best it can be. So, we’ll reconvene at the end of April to actually spend the time we haven’t had to get this where it needs to be. But, all in all, a pleasingly pleasing evening.

It was nice to have dear reader Jose and his friend Brendan or Brandon there, as well as dear reader Iris and her friend, and the screenwriter of the Sarah Palin HBO thing was there, and the East Coast singer’s very nice husband and one of her sons was there – and it was a bigger crowd than I thought there’d be. After the show, we all went to the Brooklyn Diner, where I had some weird mac and cheese and a few bites of coconut cake.

Prior to all that, we had our morning rehearsal – mostly used to just run stuff and make sure all the things we added and subtracted yesterday were remembered. It was about two-and-a-half hours of that, then we went over to Angus McIndoe for some lunch. I had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, and a grilled artichoke. It was kind of a grilled thing going on. Then I came back to the hotel and the desk person kindly printed out my boarding pass, so that was a load off. Then it was already so late that I had little time to do anything but get ready for the sound check and show. I had hoped I could do the liner notes whilst here in New York, but there just wasn’t time. Perhaps I can do some work on them on the plane, but I think I’ll probably just have to finish them when I get home today.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as I can before being on my way to the airport and then home.

Today, I shall be up early and on my way to the airport and then home. When I get home, I’ll have mail to go through, packages to open, and many e-mails to answer. I’ll also have to buckle down Winsocki and write the damn liner notes and get them to the designer. I’ll have a few errands and whatnot to do, I’ll eat something VERY light, and then just keep catching up.

Tomorrow, I think I have a lunch thing with someone (thankfully it’s in an e-mail somewhere), and will continue catching up on stuff. The next evening I’m seeing Andrea Marcovicci’s new show at the Gardenia, and I think something is going on on Friday and I think there’s some stuff on the weekend, too.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be on my way to the airport and then on my way home, I must go through mail and packages, I must hopefully pick up some packages and I must catch up. The other news is that our two latest releases should be shipping this morning. Today’s topic of discussion: There has been a lot of talk of stress and how one deals with it and business – so, let’s hear from everyone – when you’re stressed and busy do you just become a turtle and retreat into your shell, excluding everything and everyone from your life, or do you deal with it in a different way, for example, not becoming a turtle and reaching out to friends for comfort and support and occasionally taking an hour or two to just relax and recharge? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland – please send strong excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on-time trip home – and let the glorious weather hold until I’m back in the City of Studio.
