HORNSWOGGLED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, yesterday I was hornswoggled. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, was hornswoggled. For weeks now one of my regular waitresses at Jerry’s Deli has been trying to get me to give a whirl to the penne pasta in a creamy tomato sauce. But all I could think of is why would anyone eat such a thing in a deli. Well, yesterday I finally said, “Today’s the day,” and she happily brought it to me and I was properly hornswoggled because it was great. Very tasty, not too heavy, and I shall now make that part of my regular rotating meals there. Always fun to make a discovery and I left my regular waitress a nice tip for the nice tip. Prior to being hornswoggled, I’d gotten up after not quite enough sleep. The Pool Man arrived and ascertained that the pool pump motor had given up the ghost, so he was going to pick one up at the end of the day and bring it here sometime today and install it. I printed out some orders, answered some e-mails, then had the penne pasta with creamy tomato sauce.

After that, I came back home and did some work on the computer, then picked up some packages. Then I came home and watched three of the last four episodes of The Killing. In episodes seventeen and eighteen I got a little weary of the mechanics and characters constantly having to switch their emotions back and forth on a whim. But the penultimate episode was excellent and the killer was finally revealed.

Then I moseyed on over to Mr. Donald Feltham’s home environment and we taped a two-part radio show talking about the new book. He’d finished reading it and professed to enjoy it, and he asked lots and lots of good questions and I think it will be a very entertaining two shows, as he’s playing lots of interesting music from various albums that I did. It was really fun.

Then I came home and watched the final episode. Everything was wrapped up but I couldn’t help but feel that it wasn’t quite emotionally satisfying. I wanted a few people to get smacked upside the head good, but it didn’t happen. And there were things that were left unexplained, which, after twenty episodes, is a little lazy. I’m interested to now see how the American version stacks up. But overall, this was a rewarding viewing experience and was, as I’ve said, highly addictive. And I’m now a huge fan of the show’s leading lady, Sofie Grabol.

After that, I was amazed to find that I was still quite full from the penne pasta with creamy tomato sauce, so that’s all I ended up eating for the entire day save for a few pieces of chocolate licorice. I also had a nice conversation with the East Coast singer. She’ll be coming to LA in May and we’ll be working a lot. Then I’ll be coming back to NY in mid-June to rehearse and then do her act at a nice venue somewhere. Then she’ll come to LA and do it here at the Gardenia. So, that will all be fun.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep because there’s a long day of mostly writing ahead.

Today, I have an early lunch with a singer. Then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and then the rest of the day will be spent writing the contextual commentary and my opening remarks for Saturday’s memorial. Then in the evening I go see some tiny theater’s production of Spring Awakening in Hollywood, California. I’ve never seen it, so I’m sure I’ll have some reaction to it, one way or the other.

Tomorrow, I’ll finish my writing, then I’m seeing Those Callaways at Pepperdine, having a meal before, and then meeting some folks for dessert afterwards. Saturday is the memorial and I don’t think I have plans for that evening, which is good as I can watch Carnage and something else. Sunday I do the paperback book fair – I now have two hardcovers and two softcovers of the new book so I’ll bring those – there’s no way I would sell more than those. The other good news I got is that books will be here by Monday afternoon, so we’ll get them shipped out on Tuesday. I’m anxious for you dear readers who purchased it to read it. The e book still isn’t up and I’ve written a very strong e-mail about it – it was supposedly sent to all the online e book places last Saturday. Hopefully, they’ll check on it and see why this delay is going on. If I don’t hear from them by two today I’ll be making the kind of call they really don’t like.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have an early lunch, hopefully pick up some packages, write, and then see Spring Awakening. Today’s topic of discussion: I never tire of hearing about favorite pastas and seeing interesting recipes, so it’s pasta day. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, properly hornswoggled at the excellent penne pasta with creamy tomato sauce at Jerry’s Deli of all places.
