March 30, 2012:

MUTANT WORDS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is the end of the week and, more astonishingly, the end of the month. Can you believe it? March has flown by, like a gazelle having liposuction. Does anyone still do liposuction, or is there some new-fangled sucking the fat out of you thing? I never understood why liposuction is called liposuction, since one is obviously not sucking anything out of one’s lips. Fatosuction or hipsosution I would understand, but not liposuction. Liposuction is clearly a word created by a mutant. Mutant Words – that’s the title of my next novel. What the HELL am I talking about? Don’t I have notes to write and isn’t it time I write them?

I had a very nice day yesterday doing very nice things. I got up. That was very nice. Then a whole slew of CDs were shipped – The Barbarian and the Geisha and The Good Old Bad Old Days, along with books for those who ordered CDs and the new book. Now the helper will be gone for a week, so nothing is shipping until she returns next Thursday. After that, I had a bacon cheeseburger and no fries or onion rings for the meal o’ the day, then I picked up no packages even though I was due a package. I was told UPS had been there and not left me what was due. I then tracked the package just a little while ago and guess what – UPS attempted to deliver it to the mail place at eight o’clock last night – rather stupid, I’d say, since a) they know the mail place was closed, and b) it was guaranteed before seven. They will be hearing from me in the morning and they’d best deliver it today. I will be feisty with them, oh, yes, I will be feisty with them and perhaps they’ll even hear some mutant words.

I came home, did some work on the computer and had some telephonic conversations, and then I hunkered down and watched the final two episodes of Forbrydelsen II. As I’ve said, unlike the first season, nothing petered out here, and the final two episodes were quite exciting. The only minor nitpick is, once again, with the repetitive quality of the political scenes with two people continually getting one-up on the other. But the final episode of season two was great TV – surprising, suspenseful, thrilling, and perfectly wrapped up. After I finished, I watched the little “making of” which really isn’t a “making of” but two interviews of about twenty minutes in length – with producer Piv Bernth and best of all, star Sofie Grabol. She is as bright and charming and spirited as you’d want, so I enjoyed that very much. At the time the interview was shot, they were just beginning to film season three, which goes on the air in Denmark and the UK in September. I’m going to see if there’s a way to watch it over here. According to the producer, they’re switching up the structure, so I’m very interested to see what they do and am heartened they’re not just doing a carbon copy of what they’ve done.

After that, I watched the first half of the new Blu and Ray of A Night to Remember, the splendid British film about the Titanic. I’ll say more when I’ve finished it at some point today or tonight. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep so I’m ready for the busy weekend.

Today, I shall deal with the UPS people first thing in the morning (and I’ll get amazon involved if I have to, as well as the UPS Store – I’m going to get the Valley hub number so I don’t have to deal with the idiots at the 800 number). After that, I have a bunch of errands and whatnot to do, I have to eat, I will hopefully pick up some packages (including the one from yesterday) and an important envelope, listen to more STAGE benefit music, and then I’m going to our new venue to check out the piano, lights, sound, and vibe of the room.

Tomorrow we have our stumble-through, and I got the news that Lainie Kazan didn’t realize she had to do some interview, so she will not be there. That’s a little problematic, but we’ll make it work. I’m promised she will be there early for sound check on Sunday and will understand how we like things to work, which is not off-the-cuff. Then Sunday night is show time – right now we’re oversold with a waiting list, a first for a Kritzerland show, although we did have to turn a few people away at one of the Gardenia shows – I’m thinking it was the Sondheim evening.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, deal with UPS, do errands and whatnot, eat, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, and then scope out the new venue. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player. I’ll start – CD, several new soundtrack releases from various labels. Blu and Ray, after A Night to Remember, I’ll probably check out Pal Joey and Demetrius and the Gladiators. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall say many mutant words should there be any UPS people in my dream.
