AFTER MIDNIGHT, I’M GONNA LET IT ALL HANG OUT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s already after midnight, so I guess I’m gonna let it all hang out, since I once heard in a song that is what one is supposed to do. Well, it’s all hanging out now, and it isn’t all that pretty, frankly. Actually, it was all hanging out after eleven, but I do like to be early. What the HELL am I talking about? I’ll let it all hang out any time I damn well please, what do you think about that, song people? In any case, I had a nice Monday – not totally a ME day, but it had its moments. It went from 90-degree weather to 50-degree weather, so it was a little too chilly to jog. Instead, I did work on the computer, had several telephonic calls and long ones at that, had the final singer pick up his music and CDR, after which I had a sandwich and sweet potato fries.

I did some errands and whatnot, picked up no packages or mail, had a visit from the helper, shipped some books (I definitely have to reorder next week), went to Gelson’s to buy some crab legs and a light bulb, and then finally came back home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I had a marathon viewing of the final four films in series one of Wallander. All four were excellent, and two of the four were as good as any dramatic TV show ever done. The first of those two was a terrifically plotted show, very downbeat, as they all are, but wonderfully acted by all. The last episode was brilliant and very emotional and dark and chilling. It was a shocking episode in just about every way, and the fact that series two didn’t begin for almost five years is pretty amazing. It probably took audiences that long to get over the final episode. Of course, the experience of watching these final episodes was made even more melancholy because I knew that the actress playing Linda Wallander wouldn’t be coming back – she committed suicide a few months after series one finished shooting. She must have had some serious demons – she was a beautiful woman, great actress, and thirty-three and the mother of a young daughter. I will miss her, and I’m not really sure how this show will work without her in series two (the author of the Wallander books, Henning Mankell, refused to let the role be recast, which was his loving gesture to Johanna Sallstrom), but I’ll know later this week when I begin series two. But two major characters gone – we’ll just have to see. These region two DVDs look wonderful – the transfers are all lovely and the location shooting is beautiful. And I cannot say enough good things about the music, which is fantastic. I like this series (at least series one) even better than the original Danish The Killing. If you have a multi-region player, Wallander, Series One gets highly recommended by the likes of me.

After that, I sent off the packaging of our next soundtrack release for approval – I’m hoping it comes in a reasonable time frame. Then I paid one humungous Kritzerland bill that had me reeling and this was after it was all hanging out – can you imagine reeling on top of it all hanging out. It was a show, I’ll tell you that.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must try and get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I will do a jog if the weather permits, then someone’s coming by to buy some CDs, then I’ll eat something soft and light, then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, then I’ll write my contextual commentary, do errands and whatnot, and then relax.

Tomorrow I have a visit from a local dealer who’ll be picking up some CDs, then it’s more writing and more doing, I think I have a dinner engagement or a lunch engagement or some sort of engagement, in fact I think it’s with Mr. Barry Pearl. Thursday is more of the same and a Melody rehearsal, Friday I’ll be going down to the Saban Theater with my engineer to scope out how we’ll be recording the STAGE benefit, then Saturday is a Melody rehearsal, and then Melody will be my guest at the STAGE show and the engineer will be ensconced backstage recording. Then Sunday is sound check and Melody’s show, which we’re all very excited about.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog (if possible), sell some CDs, eat, hopefully pick up packages, write, do errands and whatnot, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Yesterday it was authors, today artists – if you could sit down and have a chat with any artist of your choice (painters, I’m talking about), who would it be, why would you choose that artist, and what would you ask him or her? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where it will continue to all hang out long after midnight.
