THE BERRIES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon. Berries. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, yesterday was the day when berries came to the home environment because I was told berries were the berries in terms of good for you and good for your weight-losing. And so, raspberries and blueberries and strawberries oh my came to the home environment, along with grapes, which, of course, are not berries. Also carrots, which are not berries. I felt like I was healthier and losing weight by just LOOKING at all that stuff in my refrigerator. Earlier in the day, all I’d eaten was a wrap at Jerry’s Deli. I wanted to have something light and try something new and so I had their southwestern wrap (chicken fajita, avocado, corn, and lettuce). I didn’t love it and it’s basically a wrap for the wrap. But that’s all I ate – no fries, no onion rings, no nothing. So, by the time I got to the berries I was berry berry hungry. I ate some blueberries and some raspberries, with a little Sweet and Low sprinkled on them and they were quite good. The problem is they don’t really fill you up and you just get hungrier and hungrier and you realize the berries are not cutting the mustard in staving off your hunger. But thankfully I’d also gotten some shrimp sushi, so I ate that and that was good and light. Other than that, I had a few crackers and that was it.

Prior to the berries, I’d gotten up early and was to Teddy by ten. He did his customary great job and my hair is now very short and looking neat and tidy. After that, I went and had the wrap, then did some errands and whatnot, plus the helper shipped out a lot of CDs. I picked up some packages (but not the missing package, which I’m convinced is going to stay missing) and an important envelope, then did some banking, then came home and did some work on the computer, had a couple of telephonic conversations, and answered e-mails. Then I did something I rarely do – I sat outside and just relaxed because it was so pretty out in the yard. I must resolve to do that more often. Then I came in and ate some berries, which were like little pearls of fruit delights. Yes, each was a berry pearl. We don’t allow groaning here at hainshisway.com. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching a motion picture on DVD, entitled The Bomber (aka Deadline), a Swedish movie from Sweden. Based on a novel by a well-loved Swedish author named Liza Marklund, it’s about a bomber, as you might surmise from the title. The leading character is a female reporter trying to get to the bottom of who is blowing up things in Sweden. I’d watched the first twenty minutes or so and wasn’t loving it, but I kind of ended up enjoying it on some level. I’m sure the book is much better – the film is too erratic and fragmented, just jumping from scene to scene with no transitions. The direction is average, but the acting is good. Part of the problem is that the lead character is very grating occasionally, bordering on being completely oafish. The actress who plays her is fine, as is the supporting cast, which includes a few people from the Swedish The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, as well as episodes of Wallander. In fact, the fellow who plays the reporter’s “source,” who works in the police department, looked familiar to me and then I realized he played the horrid Nils Buhrmann in Dragon Tattoo. So, not a great movie, but an okay one, probably based on a much-better book. I’ve got more Swedish stuff coming up.

After that, I did some work on the computer, ate some carrots and crackers and more berries, and then it was time to write these here notes. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get some sort of beauty sleep.

Today, I will definitely jog, then do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, maybe get the motor car washed, and then I’ll relax until it’s time for our early dinner at Genghis Cohen with the Family Hollis and then we’ll all go to see Doug Haverty’s play at some tiny hole in a wall theater on La Brea.

Tomorrow, I’ll have to prep our new release announcement, and hopefully the sound samples and master will be finished so we’re not up against the clock. Then we’ll announce on Monday morning. This coming week is a busy one with a lot of meetings, meals, a trip to Dr. Chew to get permanent cap number one, writing liner notes, figuring out a show order and writing a contextual commentary and lots more.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, hopefully pick up some packages, maybe get the motor car washed, eat, and see a show. Today’s topic of discussion: In the George Orwell masterpiece, Nineteen Eighty-Four, they finally get to Winston Smith because they know his worst fear (rats). What is your worst fear? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall have berry berry nice dreams.
