THAT’S A GOOD SANDWICH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am writing these here notes high in the sky on an actual aeroplane. The lady next to me has not stopped eating since we took flight – first, a gross-looking yogurt concoction, then two bags of nuts, and now a big-boy sandwich. The gentleman in the row in front of me across the aisle has not stopped talking since the flight began and he is not a quiet talker, oh, no, he is not a quiet talker. The lady has just added some jalapeno chips to her meal. The gentleman has also been eating up a storm whilst talking, first three bags of chips then a sandwich. At regular intervals he has leaned over to his wife, who is across the aisle, to inform her, “That’s a good sandwich.” He has said that line at least six times. “That’s a good sandwich.” The good sandwich seems to consist of two slices of wheat bread with lunchmeat within. Across the aisle from me is a cute young teen with a “junior crew” thing around her neck. I do not know what this means, other than she’s a junior crew on Jet Blue. I am in my extra legroom seat typing merrily away. I have had two bags of mixed nuts and one Diet Coke or, to put it another way, one Diet Coke and two bags of mixed nuts. The sandwich eating gal next to me (who has not said, “That’s a good sandwich”) keeps pressing her sandwich together even though it is not a thick sandwich. She’s rather obsessive about this pressing her sandwich together. The wife of the man who says, “That’s a good sandwich” is in front of me with her seat in my lap. Fortunately with these extra legroom seats it’s not a huge problem, but still I feel it my duty to bang her chair every two minutes, just for fun. Usually this particular flight is very full, but today’s flight had several empty seats. The jalapeno chips are quite noisy. The junior crew girl keeps looking around at everyone as if they were serial killers. I’ll continue these here notes once I’m in the city that never sleeps.

And here I am in the city that never sleeps about to sleep. Go know. The flight arrived on time and I got a cab quickly. I was warned there might be a lot of traffic because President Obama was arriving at a similar time (he always copies me), but other than a little traffic for the first ten minutes of the drive, we pretty much breezed into the city and to the hotel. Once again, I just adore this hotel and have another great room. I unpacked, answered some e-mails, had a peculiar telephonic call the result of which caused me to have the helper actually house sit. Normally she just brings the mail and checks things, but this time she’s staying there, so that’s good. Then I moseyed on over to Angus McIndoe for a dinner meeting.

Just prior to dinner, I found out I’ll be seeing The Best Man on Saturday night – very excited about it, as it’s a great cast. Then I had the dinner meeting – it was very interesting and intriguing and the gentleman with whom I dined was a very nice sort. It will be interesting and intriguing to see if this might lead to some interesting and intriguing things. After that, I had a brief telephonic conversation with Mr. Kevin Spirtas, then headed back to the hotes, where I answered yet more e-mails and had a couple more telephonic calls.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a very good night’s beauty sleep so I’ll be awake and alive and chipper for tomorrow’s book signing.

Today, I shall arise by ten, I may go down to the gym and do a little treadmill, then I’ll relax and take a long walk and then I’ll mosey on over to the Drama Book Shop. I’ll be meeting our very own Mr. Lanny Meyers so we can run a song that may or may not get sung. I’ve chosen the selections to read and I’m hoping for a good turnout. One never knows, of course, so please send most excellent vibes and xylophones for a good turnout. After the signing, I’m sure some of us will head over to Joe Allen for a light repast. Actually, if there’s a repast is there also a represent and refuture? Just asking. I’m hoping that Lanny and the East Coast Singer will show up at Joe Allen after their rehearsal.

Tomorrow, we’ll be rehearsing and hopefully for a good chunk of time – I’m hoping for at least four hours. Then I see The Best Man, and I’m sure we’ll meet up at Joe Allen after, or maybe even Angus, for a change of pace. Sunday is more rehearsal and then it’s show time at the Metropolitan Room. Then I’ll be up early Monday to visit a Fed Ex to Fed Ex home a little box, then I’ll be whisked to the airport and then I shall be on my way back to LA. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – nothing, I’m in New York, New York. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all say in unison, “That’s a good sandwich.”
