SHORT AND SWEET

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I shall keep these here notes short and sweet. I thought about keeping them sweet and short, but in the end short and sweet won out. The reason for keeping them short and sweet is simple: I have to be up early for the arrival of 1500 Follies CDs and then the day will be spent in shipping out as many of those 1500 as we can. I’m not sure we’ll get them all out, but we’re going to damn well try. If not, the remainder will go out on Friday. And then the poor helper has to start all over again because The Fly/Return of the Fly and Wallander arrive on Monday. I don’t actually think we’ll get them shipped till Wednesday. The poor helper has been printing labels and postage for six solid days – it actually became like a full-time job for her. But, we’ve never had anything like this before, so once the two releases that arrive on Monday are shipped, there won’t be much for her to do for at least three weeks.

Yesterday was a perfectly pleasant day about which I remember almost nothing. Oh, I remember I got up at ten. I remember I had a ninety-minute work session with our musical director. We did the three put-togethers and the one major medley from Lost Horizon, so that was good and he can now go off and smooth all that out. After that, I spent yet more time dealing with the post office thievery, which now appears to involve two MORE packages. I must have spoken to six different people, from consumer relations to the postal inspector. At no point did any of these brainiacs tell me who I really needed to speak to. When I finally got a supervisor from the postal inspection on the phone, she finally told me who I had to talk to: The Inspector General. I wondered if, when I called, I’d get Danny Kaye on the phone. But, no, I got a helpful woman who led me to their website where I filled out a theft report designed specifically for thefts that occur within the USPS offices. I had to go back ten minutes later and fill out a new form when I found out about the other two packages. So, hopefully something will now get done. Then I printed out a few orders, and I cannot imagine Follies will be here much past Friday.

After that, I finally went to have some food (around three o’clock). I had a bacon cheeseburger and no fries or onion rings. Then I picked up no packages. I came home, did some work on the computer, had a couple of telephonic conversations, got the Harvey Evans interview up – it’s now on the Kritzerland site under “News” so check it out – and then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the final Beck episode, number seven. It was the best of the bunch but completely frustrating because Beck admits to a co-worker that he’s in love with her, and at the end of the show she offers him a ride home saying, “And we can talk.” End of episode. That would be fine and dandy if I could move on to episode eight but episode eight has not been released on home video. There is a Swedish DVD that picks back up with episode ten. So, I’ll have to patiently wait until they release the damn thing to find out what happens. After that, I decided to jog and did two and a half miles, which felt really good. Then I did a little planning for the two-year anniversary Kritzerland show, and I can tell you already it’s really going to be something special, for many reasons, one of which is a little Ruthless! reunion with stars Joan Ryan and little Lindsay Ridgeway, who was eight, I think, when she did the show and who is now all grown up. Stay tuned for more fun announcements.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as possible before we ship out a LOT of Follies CDs.

Today, we will be shipping out over 1400 Follies CDs. We’ve actually hired a helper to help the helper. I have a lunch to go to, errands and whatnot to do, hopefully some packages to pick up, and then some sort of get-together at six-thirty – I’ll just make an appearance there.

Tomorrow, if we haven’t finished shipping, we will, and then we have to prepare the labels for The Fly and Wallander. I’m having dinner with friends and then seeing a concert version of Spring Awakening, in which their daughter appears. Saturday I will absolutely finish two sets of liner notes, prep our new release announcement for Monday, and then I’m dining and seeing a “young” production of Spelling Bee, a show I’ve neither seen nor heard, so I’m looking forward to it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, ship over 1400 Follies CDs, jog if I can find a moment, lunch, hopefully pick up packages and attend a get-together. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite musical numbers staged by the following people: Bob Fosse, Gower Champion, Jerome Robbins, and Michael Bennett? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where sleep, I’m quite sure, will be short and sweet.
