THE BACON CHEESEBURGER ON MY BACK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, have you ever been on a kick? This week it seems I have been on a kick and that kick is bacon cheeseburgers. It wasn’t an intentional kick, but I had three count them three bacon cheeseburgers in one week, which is very unusual for the likes of me. For the last three or four years, I haven’t eaten much red meat at all, with only an occasional bacon cheeseburger, maybe one every couple of months. But this week I had a bacon cheeseburger on my back. My first bacon cheeseburger this week was, I believe, on Monday at Tom’s Burgers in the Bank of Bur (or maybe it’s still North Hollywood there). My second bacon cheeseburger this week was, I believe, on Wednesday at Jerry’s Deli in the City of Studio, where the postal thieves do their dirty business. And my third bacon cheeseburger this week was, I believe, yesterday at Islands. I lunched with Outside the Box editor Marshall Harvey and our intention was to lunch at BJ’s in the Dale of Glen. But as we approached BJ’s in the Dale of Glen we saw a sign for Islands in front of this big complex. But we couldn’t see the restaurant and I recalled no branch of Islands being in the Dale of Glen. We looked all around the complex, so much so that it started to give me a complex. So, I went into the building and asked the security guard and he explained we had to walk past BJ’s and turn right and go about a quarter of a block. We did so and sure enough there it was, kind of hidden away. So, even though my intention was to eat a light luncheon I’m afraid I had the Big Wave with bacon and cheese, along with their yummilicious french fries. Happily, the number of fries they first brought wasn’t even equivalent to a small order of fries at McDonald’s. We did get some more, but I didn’t really eat nearly as many as I normally do. The burger was great. I am hoping I can now go on bacon cheeseburger withdrawal and not have one for at least six weeks.

Other than that, it was a day of shipping. Shipping is what the day was. It began at nine and didn’t end until five. But in the end, the helper and the helper helping the helper got all but a handful of international orders on their merry way – over 1400 CDs hauled to the post office – not the usual City of Studio post office, where they have a thief in their midst, no these went to the Glendale post office where hopefully no thieves reside. I did a few errands and whatnot, once again I picked up no packages, I answered lots of e-mails, had a couple of telephonic conversations, printed out a few more orders, and then decided to make an appearance at a small get-together.

The small get-together took place at Mo’s in the Bank of Bur. The small group was already there when I arrived. The focus of the get-together was a gal I’d gone to LACC with – so it was just former LACC students, one of whom I hadn’t seen, I think, since 1972 when he appeared in my musical version of The Comedy of Errors. I just had a Diet Coke and nothing to eat. Now, Mo’s is somewhat known for its burgers and its burger bar. You order a burger and when it’s ready you go get it at the burger bar, where you can put your condiments on, get various side dishes, and then you take it back to your table. Only after years and years of the burger bar the burger bar is no more. I noticed something was off because they have a new menu and the burger selection is much smaller – then I looked over at the bar and the bar was not there. It seemed a bit peculiar to me after all these years, but I suppose some people like change, but some people ain’t me.

I stayed there about forty minutes, then came home, where I did some work on the computer and pondered how a restaurant that was famous for its burger bar now no longer has what it was famous for. I also listened to the master for the CD of Junior High School, and it’s fine and it and a couple of other projects, including the Baja Marimbas will now go off to the pressing plant.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because now that I’m on withdrawal from my bacon cheeseburger addiction, I have to get a good night’s beauty sleep so I can fight my other addiction: This kind of nougat almond and cranberry bar – Gelson’s had them and I bought six of them and they are amazingly amazing. Not too many calories, either, about 120. I ate all six in a two-day period. Quick Watson, the Unseemly Button below.

Today, come hell or high water or even heaven or low water I shall jog. I shall hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, I shall write some liner notes, and then I shall be back at Mo’s for dinner, after which I’m going see my friend M’Lisa’s daughter in a concert presentation of Spring Awakening.

Tomorrow, it’s more writing, then supping, then seeing the Spelling Bee musical with a cast of young people. Sunday I may or may not have a meeting with Juliana Hansen. Next week will be non-stop stuff, including our two Kritzerland rehearsals, meetings and meals, booking the first of two Outside the Box shoots, finishing casting them, then we have our stumble-through on Saturday and our show on Sunday, oh, and incidentally, we’ll also welcome in a new month. Can you believe that July is almost over already? This month has flown by, like a gazelle having a high colonic.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, write, eat, and see a concert version of Spring Awakening. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, Follies, and other Kritzerland projects. Blu and Ray, The Artist, Cover Girl, and many, many others. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be rid of the bacon cheeseburger on my back.
