July 18, 2012:

THE DANCE OF THE SEVEN VEILS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, Follies will be at the pressing plant this morning and it’s full steam ahead – we’re hoping that it will arrive in the next two weeks, maybe even sooner. We continue to get some really fun and interesting people ordering this one – from well known producers of film, TV, and the theater, to actors, and last night, even an original cast member, Mr. Harvey Evans, who also ordered the soundtrack to Bank Shot, in which he appears, as well. We’re down to about 250 copies now, but orders are coming in slowly now, so I still think it could be around for another couple of weeks. I actually kind of hope it is. Other than that, I had a pleasantly pleasant Tuesday doing pleasantly pleasant things with nary an annoyance in sight.

I got up rather late after getting a wonderful and very necessary good night’s beauty sleep. I then answered a ton of e-mails, printed out some orders, and then listened to the mastered version of One More Kiss, gave my blessing, and that and our other two releases went off to the plant via Fed Ex. They’ll probably all be ready at the same time, but we’ll delay the delivery of the two film titles by two days so that we have time to get all the Follies stuff shipped. The helper has been diligently preparing the packages so that all that will need to be done is to put the CDs into them. It’s a LOT of packages. Then I had a nice salad for lunch at the Studio CafĂ©, after which I picked up some packages. Then I came home and finished the liner notes I’ve been working on and got them to the designer. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the third Varg Veum movie – it was the best so far and I’m just really enjoying this series a lot. And happily, the slightly irritating relationship between Varg and the police inspector was much more fun and much less irritating than the previous two films, so that was heartening. Then I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a classic motion picture entertainment directed by Mr. Don Siegel. The movie itself is wonderful, with terrific performances, a great score by Carmen Dragon, and great pace thanks to an eighty-minute running time. While I don’t really mind the bookend sequences that Siegel was forced to do, I do mind the mindless and rather inane narration, which is totally unnecessary. The transfer is average. I do not believe this is a new transfer and, from what I’m told, High Noon is about the same (I’ll watch that tonight) – that was my fear when Olive announced acquisition of the Republic catalog, that they’d just use all the extant transfers and that appears to be what’s happening. Too bad. It’s not a travesty or even bad, but it’s just mundane looking and has some weird stuff going on.

After that, I proofed, made changes, and then approved the packaging for an upcoming title. Then I decided that in honor of the Follies release, I’d write a piece about what we did and how we did it for the Kritzerland News section of our site, basically just a more detailed thing like I did for the website The Second Disc. However, if I’m to do it I kind of have to get it done today.

Has anyone noticed that July is more than half over? I gotta tell you. This month is flying by, like a gazelle doing the dance of the seven veils. I once did the dance of the seven veils even though I only had four veils – it was still quite effective though, but I can only imagine its power with all seven veils. In fact, I think we should all get off our lazy ASSES and do the dance of the seven veils right now, don’t you? I have to go find my veils, though, and I’m sure you do, too. In the meantime, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I need another good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall do things. It will be a day of doing things. Things is what I’ll be doing, not necessarily in that order. I’ll arise, answer e-mails, begin the piece about Follies, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, order boxes and boxes and more boxes, finesse the show order and begin to write the contextual commentary, and prep the releases of the Junior High School Blu and Ray and CD and the rerelease of the Baja Marimbas album. Then I’ll relax, I’m sure and perhaps do the dance of however many fershluganah veils I have.

Tomorrow I have a teeth cleaning with Dr. Chew and then I shall be attending a 70mm screening of Lawrence of Arabia at the Academy after having a nice meal at nearby Kate Mantilini’s. The rest of the week and the weekend shall be busy, I believe, and I believe it will be busy, which is, after all, what I believe.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, order boxes, hopefully pick up packages, write, prep releases and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall dream of doing the dance of the seven veils with all seven veils.
