THE DAY THAT WAS A BLUR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I think yesterday was Friday, and I think today is Saturday and I think, therefore I am. But isn’t it funny, yesterday is such a blur (rulb, spelled backwards)? Well, not that funny. Perhaps amusing. But not laugh-out-loud funny. But maybe a little half-smile kind of funny. Mirthful but not hilarious. What the HELL am I talking about? Apparently I am talking about yesterday and how it’s a blur. I didn’t get to bed until two because we had the Parade of the Helicopters – perhaps they were chasing a bad man all around the neighborhood, but whatever they were doing they did it for an hour. By that time I was fully awake, so I picked up the bedside iPad and began playing. As soon as I put it in my hands the helicopters went away and we had blessed silence. It took me about fifteen minutes to finally fall asleep. I got up at nine and that was definitely a blur. I recall getting out of bed. I recall answering a plethora of e-mails and having a few telephonic calls, but I can’t remember anything about the calls or the e-mails or even the e-mails or the calls. At some point I had some bacon and eggs and at some point I picked up a couple of packages. Then I had to deal with some foolish person who opened a Paypal dispute, saying we’d shipped his CD to the wrong address, despite his new address clearly being on the Paypal invoice. Now, sometimes we have an old address in the computer and sometimes, very rarely, the helper will not notice there’s a new address on the invoice. So, I responded, asking him why he felt it necessary to open a dispute when a simple e-mail to us would have gotten him an answer and a solution. I asked him how he knew we’d sent it to the wrong address if he didn’t live there anymore. I asked him for a timely response so we could deal with it and get him his CD. Then, just for fun, I looked up his invoice. Oops. There was no “new” address on the invoice, just the same one he’s always used. He’d said that they’d had it for ages, but apparently they hadn’t had it for ages or EVER. So, I wrote again, this time telling him the screw-up had nothing to do with us and I told him to close the dispute immediately and to e-mail us. Of course these fellows who are so quick to open the disputes never ever respond in a timely way. So, I got so irritated that I simply called Paypal, gave them the tracking number and confirmation of delivery and they closed the dispute and put the money back in my account. He can now not do anything through Paypal. Then I wrote him an e-mail, included a copy of his invoice, and asked him once again how he knew it had been delivered to the wrong address. Did they call him? Did he drive over there and ask? Did they send it back? Did he take it with him? So many question without answers. I told him I would be happy to get him his CD as soon as I have the answers and an apology for his lousy attitude in his original post on Paypal. We shall see what happens. As of the time of this writing, no response from him. Methinks me smells a ratski.

My goodness, that whole paragraph is a blur, and LONG.

There, I have atoned for the long paragraph with a one-sentence paragraph. After that, I have a vague memory of sitting on my couch like so much fish. I decided to take a Beck break and watch another Swedish series calle Maria Wern, a female cop show. I like it as much or better than the new Beck series, although it’s not as good as The Bridge (I’m beginning to think that that and Wallander are my favorites of the Swedish/Danish things). But I’m enjoying these treks to Sweden and have two more series on their way to me – both of those sound intriguing, although after a while, much like their US counterparts, they do begin to feel, sound, and look the same.

After that, I wrote and finished the liner notes for our next release (or the one after – I haven’t decided yet which will be which), and then I heard the one and only new Follies mix that arrived last night, Losing My Mind. It sounded quite beautiful and I was delighted to hear a little piano part that was totally buried on the original mix – it’s now there and sounds very nice and is actually helpful. And then there’s Miss Dorothy Collins. No one, and I mean no one, will ever do Losing My Mind better than Miss Collins. She just puts that incredible voice on that incredible melody with those incredible lyrics and lets the song do the rest. If only more singers of today would learn that simple lesson. The mix sounds crystal clear and it reduced me to a steaming pile of mush.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get a good night’s beauty sleep – if I do, then maybe things won’t seem like such a blur.

Today, I have a lunch meeting with Juliana Hansen to go over ideas for her club act. After that, I’ll hear our new master, then I have some errands and whatnot to do, hopefully some packages to pick up, some banking to do, and then I’m not sure what I’ll be doing. I may want to have a nice meal out and I may see who I can rustle up to go do that – it will depend on how good I am at lunch.

Tomorrow, I have to finish the second set of liner notes, and then do a third set. And then this upcoming week, I have to do three more sets of liner notes, because we’re trying to finish the packaging on three projects we know will take a few weeks to get approved, packaging-wise. The good news is, we’re fully cast for the next Kritzerland show – The Burt Bacharach Album. The cast is Danny Gurwin, Kim Huber, Dennis Kyle, Lisa Livesay, and Jane Noseworthy. Guy Haines may sing a duet again, and we’re still waiting to hear about our guest star. So, I can whittle down my long list now, assign songs, and get everyone their music and CDRs and they’ll actually have over three weeks this time, which is great. And I’m also beginning to figure out our two-year anniversary show, and who will be in that. I’ll probably still have our cast of five, but each of them will only have to do two songs, and the other six will be done by others – some guests, some kids – I think it’s going to be an evening of songs I love and have recorded that didn’t fit into any of our shows, and a couple of songs I’ve always wanted to record.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a lunch meeting, hear a new master, hopefully pick up some packages, do some banking, and then maybe have a nice meal out – if any of our west coast readers or lurkers feel like doing that, do let me know. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could have me record any song, what would it be? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I will arise and nothing will be a blur.
