WHOLLY DEPENDENT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was the best of Sundays, it was the worst of Sundays. I don’t really know why, but it seemed like a good opening sentence. Actually, it was a perfectly pleasant Sunday and even the little gnawing annoyance that persisted through some of the day was minor and I just ultimately put it away to be dealt with another time and believe me when I deal with it it’s not going to make anyone happy. But that is the price that must be paid when you behave weirdly and rudely, oh, yes, that is the price that must be paid. But enough about that and more about this. Actually, enough about this and more about those. Or these. What the HELL am I talking about? If you know, please keep it to yourselves because it would simply be too frightening to actually know what I’m talking about.

The day began with a telephonic call from the East Coast Singer, who did the act that I created for her last night at the Signature Theater to a sold out (oversold) crowd who apparently loved every second of it. She got loads of lovely compliments and apparently so did I, so that was nice. In fact, it’s always nice when a singer for whom you’ve created an act and worked your ASS off for lets you know things went well. I think that’s called respect or R-E-S-P-E-C-T. We talked a little bit about the dates for the recording we’re doing, so I now have to book that trip to the city that never sleeps. I’ll let all you East Coasters know so we can have some sort of grand get-together because August is get-together weather. We’ll actually be doing the final vocal session in LA, so it will only be a three or four day trip. I’d gotten a lovely nine hours of sleep, then after the phone call I got up and answered some e-mails and did some work on the computer. Then my musical director came by and picked up a CDR and a lot of sheet music. Then one of the singers came by and picked up the twenty-four-page chart for A Bacharach Love Story. After that, I went and had some chicken tenders for lunch. Then I came home and decided I really didn’t want to do any work, so instead I just sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched the last Maria Wern movie and it was quite good. It was quite good when it was called And Then There Were None or Ten Little Indians – you know, a group of people at a house on an island start getting killed one by one. And yes, the famous Agatha Christie twist is used here. Then I decided to watch a motion picture on DVD, a Danish thriller from Denmark entitled Kandidaten (The Candidate). While clichéd in that modern thriller kind of way, it was very well done and very enjoyable, with a terrific score by a Danish composer named Jeppe Kaas. Then I decided to watch the first film in the Varg Veum series of films. Rather than being about cops, this one’s about a scruffy private detective in Norway. All the films are based on novels by Gunnar Staalesen. The first film (which was released theatrically in Denmark) was very enjoyable, and I like the character of Varg Veum very much, so I’ll look forward to the other films in series one.

Then I made a stab at a show order for the Kritzerland show – it’s not quite right yet – like the Lerner show, it’s a little ballad heavy, which is always tricky. I took a nice hot shower to wash away some of the minor annoyance and that always works like a charm. And I also had a nice e-mail from my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim, so I feel better now about that whole Friday night thing.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as I can before I have to arise at six to announce two new Kritzerland titles.

Today, I’ll be up at six to announce the new Kritzerland titles, then I’ll probably try to get another couple hours of sleep. Hopefully I’ll print a LOT of orders. Then I’m praying that Capitol does the transfer of One More Kiss, so please send all excellent vibes and xylophones that it happen today – I would love to get it mixed tonight, mastered in the morning, and off to the plant by afternoon. Otherwise, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll do errands and whatnot, and then we’ll see what the evening holds, which will be wholly dependent on what happens during the day.

Tomorrow will be wholly dependent on what happens today, so I can’t really talk about tomorrow until I know about today, at which point I can talk about tomorrow. The rest of the week is finishing liner notes, prepping more releases, finalizing the show order, and hopefully printing out LOTS of orders. I have a few things to see and there you have it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce two new titles, I must hopefully print out a LOT of orders, I must pray that a transfer is made so I can mix, I must eat, I must hopefully pick up some packages, and then the evening will be wholly dependent on the day. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could get in our patented haineshisway.com Time Machine and go back and attend any opening night of a musical and play, what would they be. Only ONE choice for each. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall be up at six, which is wholly dependent on being up at six.
