DREAM FLIES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, despite the weather people telling us that yesterday was going to cool off, it did not cool off. Note to weather people: You might want to consider another line of work because you surely stink at this line of work. Not only did it not cool off, it was hotter than the day before. Thankfully, I stayed in most of the day and only ventured out to eat and to get a chart Xeroxed. I got a very necessary great night’s sleep, not arising until just before eleven. I got up, answered e-mails, prepared our eBlast, then added some names and addresses into our eBlast list. I chose two more songs (only two to go, I think), then confirmed that Miss Rita McKenzie will be joining us for our Kritzerland anniversary show – so we now have quite a Ruthless! reunion cast: Joan Ryan, Lindsay Ridgeway, and Rita, who’ll be singing her hilarious I Hate Musicals.

I then went and had a sandwich and onion rings for my meal o’ the day. I got the chart Xeroxed, and then I came back home to the cool, cool, cool of the home environment. I did some work on the computer, the helper came by and got some invoices, and then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched two more episodes of Cracker. I thought the one I watched yesterday was the best of what I’d seen, but these two were its equal and just great television. The first of them guest starred a fourteen-year-old Samantha Morton and Jim Carter, these days known as Mr. Carson on Downton Abbey, as a very bad man. This show, like Columbo, is not a whodunit (save for the first episode) – we know the bad guy from the top of the show. The next episode was really terrific, with one bit of harm coming to one of the leading characters and a cliffhanger ending (this show ended season two) that almost made me begin the next episode. The romance I was hoping would begin, began, but it’s now clear it’s not going to continue and I wish it would. If you, like me, missed this series when it aired, I really recommend it highly.

After the second episode it was already late (these last few episodes are all about two-and-a-half hours long). I did spend about forty minutes stalking a fly who’d somehow gotten into the house. I’m very good about making sure the flies don’t get into the house, but I think this one got in when I had to go to the garage to get some CDs. This fly was crafty, this fly was clever, this fly thought it was going to outsmart me, but I am a relentless fly stalker – I just watched it do its thing, got close to getting it a couple of times, then finally it flew and lit on the window near the computer. Just as I got there, the crafty, clever fly flew and I was after it instantly. It flew all the way to the doors that lead to the patio and I got there at the same time as it did. It lit, I struck, and dead fly in the City of Studio. Note to flies: Stay out of the house because I, BK, as an unparalleled fly swatter.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I need as much beauty sleep as I can get before I arise at six in the morning to announce the new Kritzerland title.

Today, I shall be up at six in the morning to announce our new title, a great and glorious addition to the Golden Age catalog, and a noir score by one of the masters of that genre. I won’t really have time to go back to sleep, as I’m meeting the helper early at the storage facility. After that, I will hopefully print out a LOT of orders. Then I may or may not go to visit Alex Rybeck at Greenblatt’s Deli. At some point I’ll eat, hopefully I’ll pick up some packages, and then I’ll be home to do this podcast. I’ll get the information so I can link to it.

The rest of the week will be gathering music and getting it to singers, choosing our final cast member, meetings, meals, and then preparing for my trip to the city that never sleeps.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce the new Kritzerland title, I must go to storage, I must hopefully print out a LOT of orders, I must maybe visit, I must hopefully pick up packages, I must eat, and then I must do a podcast. Today’s topic of discussion: I’m very curious as to whether people listen to podcasts and radio shows these days, and if so, which are your favorites? Also, don’t forget to listen to our own radio show right here at hainehisway.com – nobody does these better than Mr. Donald Feltham. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I will perhaps swat some dream flies.
