NEW YORK, NEW YORK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am packed and ready to be on my way to the city that never sleeps, so please send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on time flight. And good weather. We need to have excellent weather until I’m back in the City of Studio. So, I’ll keep these here notes short and sweet and also sweet and short, as I want to get to bed by ten o’clock.

And, if truth be told, there’s not much to report as yesterday was quite a quiet little day and evening, which is exactly what I wanted it to be – a quite quiet day, which is appropriate since quite is quiet rearranged. The day began, as it occasionally does, with the ringing of the telephonic device at eight-thirty. It was, of course, yet another spam call. I don’t take them, but one of these days I will finally answer and when I do these people will RUE the day they ever made the call. And I think that day is coming sooner than later. After that, I stayed in bed till about ten, then got up, answered e-mails, printed out my boarding pass, and did some work on the computer. I picked up a couple of packages, then went and had a sandwich and sweet potato fries. After all that, I came home, listened to a couple of upcoming Kritzerland projects, packed, and then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Headhunters, a Norwegian movie from Norway, based on a novel by Jo Nesbo, a very hot writer who’s being compared, of course, to Stieg Larsson (who isn’t). This is a highly touted thriller about a headhunter who’s also an art thief. It’s very much like an American thriller without the shaky-cam. It’s full of “twists” that you can see coming a mile away and it all feels very by the numbers. I’d guess maybe it plays better in the book. But the film is very well made and it’s paced well and I enjoyed it for what it was. I’m afraid the very American trendy thing of adults removing every vestige of adult body hair has made its way to countries that haven’t really jumped on that bandwagon till recently. All these Danish and Swedish crime things I’ve been watching have full frontal nudity (even the TV films) and this is the first time I’ve seen this “trend” in one of these films. I must say, I find it completely nauseating and truly odd – why do either sex find it attractive to see an adult trying to look like a pre-pubescent child. Someday someone will do a treatise on this and I don’t think the results will please some people. I understand we all have our likes and dislikes and what pleases us, but this particular trend just makes no sense to me on any level. End of rant. The transfer of Headhunters looks great, but in the end, after reading so many raves, it was a bit of a disappointment. Naturally, it will receive an American remake. Actually, this Blu and Ray comes with an American dub. Of course, I watched it in its original language with subtitles, but then I sampled the dub and it’s horrible, with terrible American voice actors doing that terrible mumble thing and where the sound mixers remove every bit of treble from the voice. It’s another trend I loathe.

After that, I listened to some more music, had a couple of telephonic calls, the helper dropped by to pick up invoices and the keys to the home environment – she’ll be house-sitting whilst I’m gone. I taught her how to use the Blu and Ray player so she can watch some motion pictures. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as I can.

Today, I shall be up very early. I’ll shower and get ready, and then at five-fifteen I will be whisked to the Bank of Bur airport and then I shall be on my way to the city that never sleeps. At seven I’ll be meeting some dear readers and others for a little get-together at Joe Allen, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Tomorrow, I’ll be up early and to the recording studio by nine. The first session begins at ten and we’re working until eight. After that, I’m sure I’ll mosey on over to either Joe Allen or Angus McIndoe. Tuesday there are two more sessions and then I’m sure I’ll be dining somewhere. I was going to try and see Jason Graae and Faith Prince but I don’t think that’s going to work. Then I shall be on my way home on Wednesday and there will be a lot to catch up on upon my returning.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be on my way to the city that never sleeps and then have a get-together at Joe Allen. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall be on my way to the city that never sleeps – don’t forget to send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on time flight, and excellent weather for the entire trip.
