BREEZY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I must write these here notes in a hurry because in just a few short minutes I must announce the new Kritzerland CD, which is a Christmas album you’ll all want to have, even our Jewish dear readers (yes, there’s a Jewish Christmas song on this album, written by yours truly). So let me just breeze through these here notes for breezy notes are fun every now and then.

I had a rather breezy day and evening yesterday. It began when I got up at ten. That was a breeze, but not really, as I stayed in bed until eleven. I got up, I answered e-mails, I did some work on the computer and then I went to The Federal to do a video test for our premiere screening of episode one of season two’s Outside The Box. We ran The Miracle Worker episode and it looked great. They have a screen that’s in the correct 16×9 ratio of our show – the sound is great, picture is crisp and clear and it should all be fine. After that, I drove to the Bank of Bur and visited with dear reader Druxy at Monsterpalooza. He lamented that it wasn’t a great show for him, but I think that was probably the case for everyone there. Too many shows, bad economy. I said hello to actor Joe Turkel and gave him a copy of The Boy and the Pirates CD we put out, since he’s one of the stars. He was happy to get it. I walked around the room and that was that. Malcolm McDowell seemed to be the big attraction of the day, but even he didn’t have much of a line. I hung out with Druxy and his ever-lovin’ Sandy for a while, and his son was there, too, with his fiancĂ©.

Then I left and went to the Studio CafĂ© for some food. It was three o’clock already and another ninety-degree day. I had two eggs, one pancake, to pieces of bacon, and one piece of toast. Then I came home, answered more e-mails, and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I finished watching the upcoming Blu and Ray of The Rains of Ranchipur. It’s certainly not a great film, but it’s very entertaining, beautifully photographed, with a gorgeous score by Hugo Friedhofer (available on Kritzerland should you want it), and with a lot of star power – Lana Turner, Richard Burton, Fred MacMurray, and Michael Rennie. All that and Cinemascope and color, too. The big special effects section is pretty impressive and the sound is great. Best of all, it’s another home run, transfer-wise, a beautiful representation of a 1950s scope and color film.

After that, I did a two-mile jog, sat in the Jacuzzi, and got the good news that one of the two episodes we’re shooting in two weeks is cast, leads-wise – Kritzerland regulars Kevin Symons and Damon Kirsche. When you know what it is, you’ll know what fun casting that is. I still have one more person to cast – I know who I want and I’ll be calling him tomorrow and praying he’ll do it. If not, it’s a pretty easy thing to cast. So, now we just have to cast the other episode, and I’m waiting to hear if a New York actor will be here to do it. We shall see. If not, I really have to lock down someone. Once I do, then the other two roles are fairly simple to cast, but I can’t do that until I know who the lead is.

Knowing who my two actors are I wrote the set-up scene – they’ll both be in it, which will be fun. Wasn’t that a breezy day and night? Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have to announce right now and then get some beauty sleep.

Today, I have lots to do, most importantly going to the editing room and finalizing episode one of this season’s Outside The Box. I asked for one additional little shot and line but I don’t know if I’ll like it or not. If not, we’ll remove it quickly, if so in it stays. Once that’s locked I’ll go grab a bite to eat, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, and then I go to my engineer’s with Juliana Hansen to do one little fix on her live show recording.

Tomorrow I have an early appointment at the DMV to renew my license (no written test, just the eye exam), then we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal, then newly-turned fourteen-year-old Jenna Rosen comes over – she’s doing a big singing contest so we’re going to work on the song she’s doing, and then we’ll go out for a fun birthday dinner. The rest of the week is meetings, meals, Halloween, a little Halloween concert at the retirement home of Jason Graae’s mom, the second Kritzerland rehearsal, the stumble-through, sound check, and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, go to the editing room, eat, do errands and whatnot, hopefully print out a LOT of orders, hopefully pick up some packages, do a little fix, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Given the potential weather problems on the East Coast, what’s the worst weather you’ve ever been in? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall hopefully fall asleep breezily.
