THE BEST OF INTENTIONS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, sometimes the best of intentions go awry and amok, not necessarily in that order. For example, last night it was my intention to relax. And yet, I did not relax. In fact, I did nothing but work right up until starting these here notes. You see? You see? I had the best of intentions and then those best of intentions took a hike, flew out the window, went awry and amok. I can’t even see straight right now. Yes, I’m seeing crooked and that causes difficulty when trying to write these here notes, but I shall mush on and do my best, at least that is my best of intentions at this moment. Actually, I think we’re off to a rousing start.

Yesterday was a day and a half. I got up at nine, had several very long telephonic conversations, which took up the entire morning until I had to leave for Dr. Chew and the Teeth Cleaning, which sounds like a novel for young people. Dr. Chew seemed very pleased with my teeth, so that was nice. It was one of the easiest and fastest cleanings I’ve had in years. After that, I went directly to lunch, having my new favorite thing, two scoops of chicken salad. I looked up the calories for such scoops and it’s great – a mere 160 calories per scoop. Since I have it on a bed of lettuce with only veggies like cucumbers and tomatoes it’s obviously very low calorie. I did use about two tablespoons of ranch dressing, but that isn’t bad at all. After that, I went directly to the mail place where I picked up one package and a copy of the latest Sondheim Review, which I have an interview in and that someone was kind enough to send me. Then I came home.

Then I had a visit with the person who occasionally co-produces Kritzerland soundtracks with me, and he gave me two pro-tool sessions for upcoming projects. We also discussed what had to get done in the next few weeks, so that was a very good meeting. I then had yet another very long telephonic conversation, this time with Mr. Robert A. Harris. We spoke of many interesting things, none of which I can tell you about. Isn’t that annoying? After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish and finished watching Butch and Sundance on DVD. I really found the entire film utterly charming and fun and I recommend it for those who can see past the original film enough to just enjoy a very different prequel.

After that, I did the two-mile jog I didn’t have time to do in the morning. It’s a little weird jogging after dark, but I’m glad I did it. Then I had to listen to and approve the Christmas album, which I did – I just have three teeny-tiny volume fixes for the mastering guy to do and that one can go to the pressing plant. Right now, we’re planning to announce it next Monday. I then had to do an edit road map for a CD with two scores on one CD. There were a lot of very short cues to combine, but with both scores the run time was coming out at about eighty-three minutes and change. So, I made some little edits in several tracks, removing completely repetitious stuff that once heard actually gets a little irritating. So far I’ve gotten six minutes out and I have one other lift that would give me two more minutes, if that’s necessary. That took a LONG time, but it’s done now. I then had to listen to another project’s master – not all the tracks are up but so far it sounds great, even though it’s a weird one to assemble. A few of the stereo cues were too damaged to use, so we have to use the mono film stem to cover those, but there was no way to make the sequencing cohesive by putting all the mono stuff at the end. So, our sequence will go from stereo to mono to stereo to mono, but it really didn’t bother me when I listened to the seven tracks I heard. I also had to do paperwork for the designer, which I’ll send tomorrow. We’re actually trying to do four packages that can all get sent in for approval at the same time, so there’s a lot to be done.

So, as you can see, the best of intentions flew the coop, went AWOL, amscrayed. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really need some beauty sleep and I have to be up at eight o’clock to ship a LOT of CDs with the helper.

Today, we’ll be shipping a LOT of CDs. I also have to write an obscene number of Kritzerland checks today, do some banking, jog, hopefully pick up some packages, do more paperwork for upcoming releases, and then mosey on over to the Wood of Holly for an early supper at Musso and Frank, after which I’m seeing The Book of Mormon. I will, of course, have a full report.

The rest of the week is filled with prepping, writing liner notes, meetings, meals, and a work session for the Kritzerland show. I’m not quite sure what’s happening on the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, ship CDs, jog, write checks, hopefully pick up some packages, prep ucoming releases, eat dinner, and see a show. Today’s topic of discussion: What was the first bicycle you ever owned – when did you learn to ride it, did you like having a bicycle, and what’s the furthest bike ride you ever took? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst with the best of intentions I hit the road to dreamland.
