12/12/12

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it cannot happen again in this century. This is the last time we can have three consecutive numbers in a date in this century. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, this is the last time we can have three consecutive numbers in a date in this century, therefore this is a historic day for three consecutive numbers in a date. Yes, it is 12/12/12, which makes 36 in my book (Chapter Five – Three Twelves is Thirty-Six). And, as we all know, 3 and 6 is 9, and if you add a 1 you get 10 and 10 is my lucky number and therefore today should be a really nice day at least as far as BK logic goes. Today let us celebrate by doing twelve of everything. Twelve trips to the bathroom, twelve dishes of food, singing Twelve Days of Christmas, The Twelfth of Never, twelve chimes at noon, twelve pieces of See’s dark chocolate nuts and chews, watching twelve motion pictures or parts thereof, doing a twelve-minute mile and acting twelve years old. Yes, twelve is the thing on 12/12/12.

12/11/12 was a perfectly lovely day. I don’t really remember much of it other than I did not do what needed to be done in terms of finalizing song choices. Instead, I took copious book notes, trying to decide which of two settings and plots I want to do for the new book. I’m pretty sure I’ve chosen the right one, but I may, in fact, incorporate the other element into it somehow, just for fun. I was in the home environment all the livelong day, didn’t even take the motor car out of the garage. I never got over to the mail place because Ontrac, wonderful delivery service that they aren’t, didn’t arrive there until almost four-thirty and by then it was just too late to get over there. It was a good day for screeners and I got seven of them – four by Fed Ex and three by UPS. Of the seven, I’ve only seen one of them, so it will be fun to see the six, and I may even watch a bit of the one I’ve already seen. I had many telephonic conversations, ate no food at all during the day, and just caught up on things. What up was doing on the things is anyone’s guess – up was trying to stay out of view, but I caught up on things and the jig was up. What the HELL am I talking about?

Then it was time to mosey on over to The Smoke House for dinner with Canadian actress Caitlynne Medrick and her mother Cynthia. Caitlynne, as I’ve mentioned, won a huge singing competition when she was a teenager, when she wowed them with my song Annie. Her mum has stayed in touch over the years, and when Caitlynne was here for the summer, she came to one of our Kritzerland shows and saw Nudie Musical at its midnight showing. We were seated at a booth close to where people enter the dining room. That turned out to be an amusing place to sit, because unbeknownst to the likes of me a soundtrack record label was having their Christmas party at The Smoke House, a party to which I’m never invited, because I occasionally have the temerity to be vocal about their occasionally stepping all over other labels’ releases with their endless huckstering of their product – excellent product, too, but they’ve occasionally trumped others’ releases and I’m not just talking about us and I’m not the only one bothered by it, but I am the only one who speaks up. So, I am not on their A list apparently and I’m jiggy with that. So, it was most amusing as their party guests arrived and saw me sitting dining with two beautiful women. Most came to the table and asked why I was there and not at the party – most suggested I just crash the thing after dinner, but I don’t crash, I’m afraid. They all told me that Mr. Nick Redman and his ever-lovin’ Julie would be there, but I knew differently and, of course, they weren’t. I hope their party was as much fun as my dinner with the girls, because we had a grand time chatting away and talking about this and that and also that and this. Caitlynne is planning to move here in January for a year and I told her mum I’d keep my eye on her and make sure she’s safe and sound. I’ll probably put her in an Outside the Box episode for season three. I had a cup of clam chowder and the medium cut of prime rib, with sides of scalloped potatoes and creamed spinach. And, of course, we shared the garlic cheese bread. The food was all yummilicious and I was so stuffed that I couldn’t even attempt the creamed spinach. There was no room to even think about dessert.

After dinner, I drove them back to their hotel on Sunset at La Brea, then I came home. It was too late to watch any of the screeners, so instead I watched the four trailers for Experiment in Terror that are included on the Blu and Ray and then I did some work on the computer. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall be up and at ’em and shall buckle down, Winsocki and make my final song choices – I actually have chosen all but four songs, so it shouldn’t take too long and then I’ll get all the sheet music and get the singers their stuff. At noon I’ll be having a post-birthday luncheon with dear reader Jeanne, in some jernt located in the old Helms Bakery building in the City of Culver. It’s a bit of a schlep but it will be fun. I’ll then hopefully pick up some packages, then come home and finish with the songs if I haven’t, make more book notes, and then hunker down and watch some screeners, perhaps starting with Lincoln.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week I’ll hope for quick approvals on the three new projects, I’ll make more book notes, have meals and meetings, and maybe try to get to Teddy for a haircut, as I have become most unkempt. The weekend is pretty open, save for doing a Face Time rehearsal with the East Coast Singer on Sunday. Hoping more screeners arrive so I have plenty of weekend viewing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, finalize song choices, get music, and get the singers their stuff, I must lunch with dear reader Jeanne, I must hopefully pick up some packages, and I must relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you can ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, and on 12/12/12 everyone must make at least thirty-six postings.
