December 29, 2012:

I RESOLVE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is only a few days until the New Year. And one resolution I’m putting into effect on this very day is to stop eating like a PIG. Invariably it happens every holiday season and lasts for about two solid weeks and there’s nothing to be done about it, but I’m now feeling very gross and therefore starting today I am on a quest to lost twenty pounds as quickly as possible. I’m going to throw out several things in the home environment that are tempting me – candy, brownies, and that kind of thing that’s left over from the Do. I had planned to begin that today and I was fine for the first half of the day – eating tuna on those little Hawaiian role things that are so tasty. I had four of those, which is like having a sandwich and a half, bread-wise. So, not too bad. And I had one little slice of my Darling Daughter’s cherry loaf cake that she makes me for Christmas. But then it began: As I watched motion pictures I decided I needed to finish not one but both of the Entenmann’s chocolate donuts – had I left those alone, I would have been fine. I also decided to have a couple of thin-sliced pieces of the Eyetalian salami that David Wechter bought me, and so I had another Hawaiian role with that – it wasn’t horrendously large but I shouldn’t have done it. And I even had one piece of See’s candy. As you can see, completely out of control and I’m feeling like a big ol’ blimp right now. Since I have no plans at all for the rest of the weekend, and the next time I know I’ll be tempted by food will be at the Barry Pearl New Year’s Day party I’ll be attending, I think I can get back on track. Other than the cherry loaf, absolutely no candy or other desserts. And no crazy sauces or really fattening crap. I’ll do simple sandwiches, salads, and egg things. I’ll lay off pasta for a while and potatoes, too. And I’ll start jogging again, probably on the first. And that is my first resolution.

Other than overeating (funnily, in the scheme of things, I probably had the equivalent of two decent meals), I had a very relaxing day yesterday. I got up at ten (didn’t get to bed until two the previous night), did a few things, and then at eleven the musical director showed up and we ended up working for over ninety minutes. I wanted to really play through all the music – but this show we didn’t really do as much arranging work as we normally do for our shows. We just did that on a few songs, but I did work on the layouts for various songs, and we did have to figure out the handful of put-togethers. But what music, what words, and I think it’s going to be a really good show.

After that, I called the mail place and was told there were no packages, so I didn’t need to go over there. So, I actually never left the house. Then I just ate and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Turn Me On, Dammit, a Swedish film from Sweden and rather an amusing, quirky one that I enjoyed very much. It’s quite subversive in its own way and I certainly don’t think anyone would quite have the guts to do it here in the USA in exactly the same way, because here in the USA filmmakers only like people to believe that only young boys from thirteen to fifteen are really horny. Yes, in the USA, only boys are horny and we’ve had films ad nauseum about it. Well, this Swedish film from Sweden is about a fifteen-year-old girl overrun with horny hormones. It’s very wry and well observed and the lead girl is excellent, as are the other players. There is some nudity for the girl, but it looked like a body double to me, in that the nudity never showed her face. Same with the one instance of male nudity. But that’s not what it’s about, really, and it’s just a charming little bauble and it’s available right here in the USA if you want to check it out. So, if you’d like to see the polar opposite of movies like American Pie, this might be up your alley.

I then watched another motion picture on DVD, this one a French film from France entitled Nobody Else But You. This film I really liked – it’s a quirky thriller with a somewhat convoluted style, but it’s very entertaining and really holds one’s interest, and the actors are terrific. The mystery is kind of perfunctory, but that’s not the point of the film. There is also nudity in this film, both female and male (one of the characters – a policeman – is so subtly gay and the way it’s done is so clever that that part of the film is really kind of unique). If you like quirky thrillers you might want to give this one a chance – it, too, is a US release and easily available online.

After that, I was watched out, so I just played on the computer, took a long shower, and had a few telephonic conversations. I also had a completely weird private message from someone on Facebook – I responded and the person responded with an even weirder message. I’ll talk about that in tomorrow’s notes, because it’s interesting. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get as much beauty sleep as possible before she of the Evil Eye arrives.

Today, I shall have an early meal whilst she of the Evil Eye does her thing, and then I’ll do some errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, and then I come home because the helper is back from her week long vacation and there are a lot of orders that need to get shipped immediately. Other than that, I’ll just relax and watch motion pictures and continue making book notes.

Tomorrow is more of the same, Monday is our Annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve party, which you will not want to miss, Tuesday is the first day of a brand New Year and I’ll be starting my new book, jogging, and then attending Mr. Barry Pearl and his ever-lovin’ Cindy’s New Year’s Day party. Wednesday is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, Thursday we also have one thirty-minute rehearsal with a singer who can’t be there on Wednesday, and Friday is our second rehearsal. Saturday is our stumble-through and Sunday is sound check and show time, and I think we’ll be premiering episode four concurrent with its going up on Broadway World. So, a very busy first week of the New Year, but one I’m really looking forward to – of course, I’ll be writing the new book every day until it’s finished.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, eat an early meal (and then not eat much of anything after that), hopefully pick up some packages, see the helper, and watch motion pictures and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What was your single favorite thing that you did or got done in 2012? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland having resolved to lose twenty pounds as quickly as possible.
