I HEART WRITING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I heart writing. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, heart writing. How much do I heart writing? To infinity, that’s how much. Even when it’s slow going and even when it’s frustrating, it’s still a love affair to remember, at least for me. To get up and finesse and fix and change and add and subtract, to create new pages, to have a great idea just pop up out of nowhere as you’re typing or to come to you in the shower so that you have to run to the computer to write it down – I just love the entire process. Even when it IS frustrating that frustration usually leads to something good, something you may not have thought of that you’re suddenly forced into thinking of. I rarely stare too long at a blank page, I just don’t have the patience. So, I just start typing and if it isn’t good it doesn’t matter because I’ve just kick-started my brain and eventually I find the rhythm or the point and then I just go back the next morning and fix whatever wasn’t good. I even usually love writing these here notes, even after I’ve written twelve pages in a day. So, even if I’m not working on a book, I’ve got these here notes, I’ve got liner notes, I’ve got the monthly contextual commentary, and then there are the Outside the Box episodes, too, so all that keeps the writer juices flowing, too. Anyway, I just thought I’d mention that I heart writing.

Yesterday was a fascinating day. I got up at eight-thirty. That was fascinating. Then I finessed and futzed with and fixed the previous day’s writing, and I finished a chapter and wrote the first paragraph of a new chapter. Then I printed out all the pages I’ve done, took them over to Staples and got the Xeroxed, and then took them directly to Muse Margaret. Then I went and had an omelet and two bagels but no potatoes. I do love a good mushroom, onion, and cheese omelet, I must say, and therefore I did say. After that, I came home and began writing again and got about four or five pages done fairly quickly. Then I had to deal with some Kritzerland website weirdness that took about an hour to figure out – the site was down for that time, but was back up and running once we’d figured out everything. I didn’t think their customer service was all that great yesterday, and I ended up calling and speaking to someone to let them know we were dissatisfied and would perhaps be seeking other hosting options. We’ll see how that plays out. At least it was all taken care of in a timely fashion (a double knit chastity suit). Then I picked up no packages, which was surprising, so I had to write a little e-mail when I came back home. A response came quickly and the package hasn’t even been sent yet. That will be rectified tomorrow, oh, yes, that will be rectified tomorrow. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched four more episodes of The Killing III. I am really enjoying it, and one thing this show ALWAYS does right is the ending of each episode, which makes you have to keep watching. They’re just brilliant about that. Otherwise, the same problems that crept up in seasons one and two started to creep up in episode five. There was one plot point that was so obvious and where I got ahead of them, and that you never want in a show like this – of course, I was right about it and all the scenes about that plot point were pointless to me and complete time wasters since I knew the mechanics of where they were going. And while not as irksome as season one, the political stuff is basically just the same two scenes played over and over again and that gets very old. I suppose when the episodes are spaced out over the ten weeks, then it’s not so tiresome, but watching them back-to-back, it really gets tiresome quickly. But I’m still enjoying it, mostly thanks to leading lady Sofie Grabol, who is just the most wonderful actor. So, I should finish the final two episodes today or tonight.

In between the first two I watched and the last two I watched, I wrote more pages, answered e-mails, got the great news that our guest star for the February Kritzerland show is Karen Morrow – I’ve been badgering her for over two years to do one, and she finally said yes in December and confirmed yesterday. We are beyond thrilled. Then Muse Margaret called and said the day had gotten away from her, so she wasn’t able to read the pages, so she’ll be reading them this morning and getting back to me in the early afternoon. She did say that she read the first two pages and thought they were great and that she laughed out loud, so that’s nice to hear. Hopefully she’ll enjoy the rest.

After the other two episodes, I wrote some more, so I ended up doing twelve pages, so that was great and I felt like I got over a little hump I had to get over and have moved on to a slightly easier section for the next couple of chapters. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Oh, and I forgot to mention we also shipped out all three of our latest titles, so those are on their merry way. Today shall be mostly writing, with a lunch excursion to Mo’s, hopefully getting an important e-mail notification, and hopefully picking up some packages. I’ll also watch the final two episodes of The Killing III.

Tomorrow I’ll have a visit with our very own Mr. Nick Redman, and maybe a meeting with a singer, but other than that it’s just more writing every day. Not sure what’s going on for the weekend, but I’ll do my best to have a nice dinner out on one of the weekend nights. The Hollywood Show is this weekend and I know a LOT of the people doing it, but they’ve moved the show to a hotel near the LA airport, which I think will be the kiss of death for the show. At least I know I’m not driving all that way.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, have a lunch excursion, hopefully pick up some packages, write, watch the final two episodes of The Killing III, and write. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland happy that I heart writing.
