KRITZERLAND AT STERLING’S 30

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must tell you that Kritzerland at Sterling’s 30 is now in my top five shows that we’ve done. What an evening it was. We began by showing the season finale of Outside the Box, which garnered big laughs throughout. Then we began the show proper and it was just one out of the ballpark number after another. Jenna Rosen started us off with a terrific performance and then our five core cast members just were so stellar, with each song a highlight. Dan Callaway, Chelsea Emma Franko, Kim Huber, Dennis Kyle, and Lisa Livesay – as the Gershwins said, who can ask for anything more. Adrian Zmed did a beautiful job on his Children of Eden song, and Karen Morrow just stopped the show cold with No Time at All – she is a true original and frankly they just don’t make ’em like that anymore. And the Staitman girls, Sami and Sarah, tore the roof off the place with All for the Best. All beautifully accompanied by Lloyd Cooper. I have to say that patter-wise it was one of our funniest shows and there were several really nice laughs along the way. We had some wonderful folks in the audience, including Nancy Dussault (who’s with us for the next show), Ilene Graff and her ever lovin’ Ben Lanzarone, Barbara Deutsch, Elizabeth and Richard Sherman, cousins Dee Dee and Alan and our friend Nancy Lee, Barry Pearl and his ever-lovin’ Cindy, Adryan Russ, Doug Haverty, Outside the Box’s editor, Marshall Harvey, ASCAP’S Michael Kerker, and many others. But the best was having my Darling Daughter there – she had a great time and I embarrassed her good when I introduced to everyone the same way I dedicated my first book – as the one thing I got perfect. After the show, Kerker told me one of his favorite things in the show was me having two men do For Good from Wicked, and having a Glinda do an Elphaba song. I think this is one show we’re going to travel – perhaps to Washington and New York – it’s a natural and easy to cast, although I would offer this entire cast the opportunity to come along.

Prior to all that, I booked a termite company to come out today, I killed a few termites, then finally sprayed a bunch of Raid around the window they seemed to like best – once I’d done that I think I only saw one termite the rest of the day – and when I came home from the show there were none in evidence. I did all the prep work to announce our new Kritzerland title, did some banking, never got to the mail place, did a two-mile jog, and then went to video and sound check. After the show, some of us went to Little Toni’s where I had some dinner (I only eat an artichoke before the Kritzerland show) – pasta with butter and cheese and a small salad, so not too bad.

All in all, a perfect evening. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as possible before arising at six in the morning to announce our new title.

Today, I shall be up at six announcing the new Kritzerland title, which is a biggie – the complete original soundtrack to the classic film Laura, composed by David Raksin. Then I’ll hopefully print out a LOT of orders. I have to be at Dr. Chew’s for some bonding work at ten-fifteen, and then I have to be back here by one for the termite inspection people. After that, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and then I begin planning the next Kritzerland show.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week is casting, choosing songs, and getting everyone their material. I’ll also finish up writing the first two season three Outside the Box episodes, and attempt to decide on the four that will follow that. On the weekend, it’s the book fair on Saturday, seeing a show Saturday night (Barry Pearl is in it), Sunday I’m judging the finals of the singing contest, and hopefully at some point in there I’ll find a moment to relax.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce our new title, I must hopefully print out a LOT of orders, I must have an appointment with Dr. Chew, I must eat, I must have a termite inspection, I must hopefully pick up some packages, and I must relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s trip day – if you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall bask in the glow of our wonderful performers for Kritzerland at Sterling’s 30.
