NOTES A LA CARTE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon. Instead of a full course of notes, we shall have notes a la carte. So, what sort of a day was yesterday? Yesterday was a sort of day, that’s what sort of a day yesterday was. I got up at nine, answered e-mails, and then finished choosing the Billy Barnes songs for the Kritzerland show, and then I assigned them. Then I cast the final female cast member (four in this show, with one guy), and we’re still going back and forth about the guy. Then the helper came by and we did a Costco run to Costco, which is a really good place to go when you’re doing a Costco run. Whilst there, I had a funny telephonic conversation with Miss Joanne Worley, and we’re delighted she’s one of our two guest stars, the other being Miss Nancy Dussault. I bought the usual waters and Diet Coke, some French bread pizza things, and some flowers to brighten up the living room and dining room.

Then we came back and put the stuff away. Then I picked up one package from the mail place. Then I did some work on the computer whilst listening to a couple of upcoming Kritzerland releases – I’m trying to get two prepared in the next two weeks so we’re not playing catch up so much. I had a few telephonic conversations, as well. I know I did some other things but I cannot remember what they were. Then at five-thirty the Staitman gals and mom arrived and we headed to the birthday dinner venue, which was Barone’s, an old-style and very good Eyetalian jernt. I had a small salad and the shrimp scampi, we ordered a half cheese, half pepperoni pizza for the table, and Sami had that and a Caesar salad, Sarah had bow tie pasta and two sausages in a marinara sauce, mom had some kind of chicken breast. I had a couple of slices of the pizza two, which has a very thin crust and very small slices, so it was, in essence, like having one regular slice of pizza and not a big slice at that. For dessert I ordered the crème brulee, and Sami ordered a cannoli. She and Sarah didn’t care for that, so we all kind of shared the crème brulee, which was decent but not exceptional. The conversation was wild and wooly and also wooly and wild.

Then we came back to the house and chatted, watch some stuff on You Tube, and then they were on their merry way. One really has to have energy to keep up with these irrepressible sisters, that much I can tell you. It was a fun time for all. It was too late to watch a motion picture, so I had a long telephonic call with a book dealer friend who’ll be selling at the book fair today. He was pretty pleased with the number of dealers there, so it should be fun. Then I typed up a track list for one of the two CDs I’m trying to prep.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as possible.

Today, I shall be up at nine and out the door by nine-forty and on my way to the Santa Monica book fair. My intention is to hang out there for a few hours, then head home – I already know there’s a package that arrived late yesterday, so I’ll pick that up. Then I’ll relax for a bit, then be on my way to Barry Pearl’s, after which we’ll drive down to wherever his theater is, sup, and then see him in Neil Simon’s Rumors.

Tomorrow, I have to be at The Federal by eleven to judge the finals of the singing contest. I know quite a few of my fellow judges so I should be fun. We don’t have to critique out loud, so that’s good – we just grade and move on, the votes are tallied, and then it’s down to the five finalists who all do another number – we vote on that, and then the winner is announced. After that, I come right home and then have a dinner to do. Next week is insanely busy gathering music and getting it to singers, getting the book to Grant Geissman so he can begin his design process (he also already has an idea for the cover, so that’s good), and then there are the usual meetings and meals. I’m not sure this is the month I’m going to be able to go to Washington – it’s a shorter month than usual, the Kritzerland show is taking much more work than usual, plus I have to stay on top of the Kritzerland releases. That and the storms have me very nervous, so I may have to push my visit into March, right after the Kritzerland show. That will be much easier.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, go to the book fair, pick up packages, relax, sup, and see a play. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite works of Mr. Neil Simon? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where, having written notes a la carte I shall have dreams a la carte.
