THE SECOND REHEARSAL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, our second Kritzerland rehearsal went very smoothly and was a ton of fun. We began with our cast replacement, Chelsea Emma Franko – she’s done one other show for us, The Alan Jay Lerner Show, and I really like her a lot. She’s just doing two songs – The Wizard and I and Lion Tamer – and she already has The Wizard and I down cold, and she’s almost there on Lion Tamer. She’s got an amazing voice and I just had some tiny notes on the levels of the song. Then we had Kim Huber, the Staitman girls (I do believe their number will stop the show cold), Lisa Livesay, Dennis Kyle, and Dan Callaway. Dan was originally doing In Whatever Time We Have as a duet with the gal who got sick – but it works perfectly as a solo so we’re all set. It’s always such a treat to hear wonderful voices doing wonderful songs, which is why I enjoy these rehearsals so much. Afterwards, the Staitmans, Lisa, and I went to the local Thai place, where I had a Thai salad, pad Thai, and the cashew chicken (the latter dish is more like an appetizer size) – all excellent and we all laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again. Then I came home and it was too late to watch a motion picture so I finished proofing the book. Overall, I really just found typos, juxtaposed words, and I did make a few tiny additions and a handful of deletions. I’ll now enter all these fixes into the manuscript and then that can go off to my two proofers for their comments. I do have a few things to run by Muse Margaret, just to make sure she’s okay, but the majority of what I’m fixing won’t be of interest to her because it’s just grammar stuff.

Prior to all that, I got up at nine, answered e-mails, had a few telephonic conversations, and then had a turkey sandwich to tide me over until dinner. I proofed while I ate and I ate while I proofed, not necessarily in that order. After that, I picked up no packages. But interestingly, I did get a package at home, even though I’ve told the sender I really prefer getting them at the mail place. I did some banking. And I even managed a few moments in the Jacuzzi, which was very nice indeed.

I’m also starting to plan the next Kritzerland show, one I’m very excited to do because the composer/lyricist involved was a dear friend who passed away last year – and nobody has really said boo about it, and this will be the first tribute concert to him and he deserves it – the wonderful Billy Barnes. We’ve already got one of our guest stars, Nancy Dussault. This show will be on a Saturday night rather than our usual Sunday, because the club has a special one-time event on our Sunday. The only other time that could happen this year is if the Tony Awards end up on the first Sunday of June rather than the second Sunday in June. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I do need a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall be entering all the fixes into the manuscript and then I’ll send the manuscript where it needs to go. I may try to jog – that would be a pleasant change of pace. The weather has been very nice the last few days. Then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and then at six I’ll sup and then attend the opening night of And The World Goes ‘Round at the NoHo Arts Center.

Tomorrow we have our stumble-through at one. After that, I’m sure some of us will go have a bite to eat, and then I’m relaxing and watching motion pictures. I already know I’m not announcing our new Kritzerland title until mid-week or possibly even the following Monday. I will only say that it is an amazing release you will not want to miss out on – I may even make it available to you dear readers a little early like I used to, because the film involved is an all-time classic, and so is the score – this will be the score’s first complete presentation and taken from first generation materials – and I do think this will sell out fairly fast. Monday is our video and sound check and then our show. I think we have lots of interesting people coming.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Hokey Pokey, because once again we’ve got us two count them two birthdays to celebrate. The first birthday we’ve got to celebrate is our very own dear reader Ben. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader Ben. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER BEN!!!

Our second birthday to celebrate is to occasional dear reader Iris. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to occasional dear reader Iris. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OCCASIONAL DEAR READER IRIS!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, enter fixes, send the manuscript for proofing by the proofers, maybe jog, hopefully pick up some packages, eat a light supper, and attend an opening night. Today’s topic of discussion: Even though I know some of you dear readers won’t have answers, what are your favorite songs by Billy Barnes? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, filled with Thai food and happy that our second rehearsal went so well.
