THURSDAY IN WASHINGTON, DC

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m told my big boy computer should be ready tomorrow – they’ve replaced what needed replacing and are testing it. When I asked if they replaced the hard drive the person didn’t know, so I have no idea what I’m in for at the moment. In any case, the helper will get it and let me know what’s what. If it is the hard drive then she’ll have them write out instructions for exactly what I have to do to get the back-up drive’s information on the computer – it’s apparently easy, but I really want it step-by-step. Part of me is still praying it wasn’t that and that everything will still be there as it was. We shall see.

Thursday in Washington, DC was busy, but fun. I got up at eight, then joined Lanny downstairs where he’d already partaken of the free breakfast – oatmeal he had. I had nothing. Then we were picked up and driven to the East Coast Singer’s house. She wasn’t there, but arrived about ten minutes later. Also in tow was Sandy’s publicist, Mona. We played through some stuff, but mostly I was interested in talking – concept, point, and what the thing is really about. We made some good headway, then played through some other stuff, then played through some of the album stuff again. I once again had fruit for lunch, and Sandy had also bought some cupcakes so I had one, knowing I was going to eat a reasonably low-calorie dinner. Then we came back to the hotel. I answered some e-mails and had a telephonic call, and then an hour later Mona and I were picked up and driven to Sandy’s theater or, more accurately, the French restaurant next door. Getting there was a comedy of errors – the housekeeper drove us and had directions but somehow got on a wrong street and from there we just got more lost and more lost. Sandy didn’t know from where we were, the restaurant didn’t even know from where we were. I finally realized I have a damn GPS on my phone, so I launched it, typed in the city and state, the street and the address and five minutes later we were there.

The restaurant was a cozy affair. I had the salmon with bernaise sauce, and it came with some vegetables and about three tiny potato pieces. So, that was very low-calorie and that was it for me. Dear readers ChasSmith and KevinH were there, too – I think ChasSmith had what he described as a terrific steak, and KevinH had some risotto and cauliflower gratin. Mona had a chicken dish. My dish was really good. Then we toddled next door to see Sandy’s show.

Last night, I saw the East Coast Singer in Ladies Swing the Blues. The cast was excellent (including Sandy, who was really a bright spot), the band was excellent, and the arrangements were fun. A lot of the show is standards, but there was some original material, too, songs-wise. The show itself has some things to work out – the show is really about Charlie “Bird” Parker, and yet the title leads us elsewhere – that’s a big problem. The ladies of the title are Ella, Sassy (Sarah Vaughan), Billie, and Peggy Lee. They kind of serve as a Greek chorus, but they really need to be more than they are and the show needs to figure out what it wants to be. Some reorganization of material would help a lot. But the audience really liked it and we all had a good time.

Then Sandy drove Mona and I back to the hotel. I found out my Monday lunch date has been cancelled – hopefully it can be rescheduled a day or two later. And that was pretty much it. Well, let’s all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m tired and need a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I get to actually sleep in till about ten. Then I’ll get up and do a few things. We’re being picked up at one and will work for a couple of hours. Then Lanny and I will take the Metro into DC to sup and then see Hello, Dolly at the Ford’s Theatre.

Tomorrow, I’ll probably visit the gym for an hour and do the treadmill, then I’ll sit with Lanny, and I’ll leave for the airport at two-thirty. Once there, I have a day pass for the Ambassador Club and can relax until the five o’clock flight. I’m ready to come home, so do begin sending excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on-time flight, with good weather.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in till ten, do some things, have a short work session, do some more things, then take the Metro with Lanny to sup and see Hello, Dolly. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu-ray player? I’ll start – nothing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland after a Thursday in Washington, DC.
