WASHINGTON DC HERE I COME!

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am typing these here notes on my teeny-tiny laptop computer because my big boy computer is at the Apple Store. My big boy computer, as you know, has had bouts of kernel panic, so something had to be done. Unfortunately, the something that had to be done is major, because apparently this big boy computer that I bought fourteen months ago had a problem from the beginning and a recall was issued for the hard drive. Funny, everyone forgot to inform me of this little fact, from e-mail to the numerous conversations I’ve had with techs in the last year. The guy at the Apple Store said that’s what they’ve been doing most – replacing all these hard drives. So, I will be getting a new hard drive, which, of course, petrifies me since they wipe the computer clean. To say that most of my creative life is on that computer would be an understatement of large proportion. But, hopefully the Time Machine backups have been happening correctly and he told me that all I have to do when I get it home is click on restore from Time Machine backup and when that completes all will be exactly what it was – and it had better be. So, I’ll spend an uneasy few days until I return. I should have the computer back before I return (the helper will pick it up) and then first thing Sunday morning I’ll call Apple Care and with them on the phone I will do this Time Machine thing.

I must also write these here notes in a hurry because I’m being picked up at five-fifteen in the morning. Other than the scary computer stuff, yesterday was fine. I got up at nine, did a three-mile jog, answered e-mails and had telephonic calls, then took the big boy computer in. Then I picked up some packages, after which I came home and packed. Then I had some hot dogs for the meal o’ the day. Then I wrote some big boy Kritzerland checks – what a crazy expensive month this has been. Then the second carpenter came by to look at all the house stuff – I think this second guy’s estimate is probably going to be much larger than the first guy. After that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching the tribute to Jerome Robbins ballet Blu and Ray – exquisite. And the final piece, a comedy ballet called, I think, The Concert, was laugh out loud funny and quite brilliant. I then watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Badlands, starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. I hadn’t seen it in quite some time, but I’m happy to say it remains a completely one-off masterpiece, with simple but poetic direction, perfect performances, a unique script, and a musical score that no one would dare do today. In fact, no one would have a clew how to do the movie today. The transfer is about as perfect a Blu-ray transfer as I’ve seen – perfect color (this is what 1970s color should look like), perfect contrast, and utterly gorgeous. Highly recommended by the likes of me.

After that, the helper came by and we went over everything she needs to do while she’s staying here watching the home environment. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I want to get these here notes posted and get to bed no later than ten, but preferably before.

Today, I shall be up at 4:45 and out the door at 5:15, and then I shall be taken to the airport, and soon thereafter I shall be winging my way to Washington, DC. So, please send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on time flight, with good weather. Once I arrive, I’ll take a taxi to the hotel, get the laptop set up, maybe do the treadmill if there’s a gym, and then I’ll be supping with the East Coast Singer and maybe even dear reader KevinH. If not, he and I will sup on Wednesday night.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week I’ll be rehearsing every day, seeing the singer’s show on Thursday night, and hanging out. On Saturday, I return to the home environment and should be back by early evening.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get up early, go to the airport, fly to Washington, DC, get settled in and sup. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite performances of Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall be winging my way to Washington, DC. Don’t forget the super-strong excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on time flight, with good weather.
